If there is a "blank", then the assignment hasn't been graded/recorded.
"Missing" means that the assignment has been graded; either it hasn't been submitted or it was submitted late and hasn't been regraded yet.
After progress reports are issued, you will see what the student's grade was when progress reports were issued as well as the current grade (in progress).
