Hi Everyone!
I look forward to meeting each of you soon, but until then, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself. This year will be my 28th year teaching in SCUSD and my 22nd year at Miwok Middle School (formerly Sutter). I LOVE this school, and I really love teaching 7th grade! Why? Well, mostly because 7th graders get my lame jokes 😃 but also because they're so witty, funny, energetic, and eager to learn. My students make me laugh every single day. That's one of the reasons that I have the best job ever!
I know it's weird to imagine your teachers having personal lives, but we do! I'm married to a pretty wacky 6th grade teacher at Phoebe Hearst, and we have twin boys, Cameron and Andrew. My boys will be seniors at Cosumnes Oaks High School this year. Both boys run XC and track and are in the engineering pathway at their school.
Summer is easily my favorite season, and this summer started off with a bang! To celebrate my 50th birthday, my husband and I took a trip to Europe. We spent a few days in Rome where we toured the colosseum and the Vatican, made our own pizza and tiramisu, and, of course, ate a LOT of gelato. Then we boarded a cruise ship for seven nights and made stops in three countries. In Italy, we explored the Roman city of Pompeii and the beautiful coastal towns of Cinque Terra. In France, we explored a very windy Marseille on e-bikes, and in Spain, we took in some sites of Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca before getting in some much-needed beach time! Our summer was pretty calm after that trip, but I did get a chance to take my boys to visit some colleges in southern California (more beach time in Santa Monica!), go paddleboarding on Jenkinson Lake and white water rafting on the American River, and spend a couple days in Lake Tahoe. Summer break definitely went by WAY too quickly this year!
During the school year, I obviously don't get to go on as many adventures with my family and friends, but I still seem to stay pretty busy. If I'm not teaching or grading papers, you'll probably find me lifting weights in my garage gym, playing the piano, watching my boys run at cross country and track meets, or taking our two dogs, Gracie and Harley, for long walks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not always on the move. I also know how to veg out and do nothing! When I am in the mood to relax, I'm a sucker for reality television, and there's nothing better than having a good book to read.
I am excited to start a new school year with you! You're going to love Room 205. We have a stage! 😃
See you soon! I can't wait to meet you on August 18!
