Hi Everyone!
I look forward to meeting each of you soon, but until then, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself. This year will be my 29th year teaching in SCUSD and my 23rd year at Miwok Middle School (formerly Sutter). I LOVE this school, and I really love teaching 7th grade! Why? Well, mostly because 7th graders get my lame jokes 😃, but also because they're so witty, funny, energetic, and eager to learn. My students make me laugh Every. Single. Day. That's just one of the reasons that I have the best job EVER!
Summer is easily my favorite season. I love being able to take my time drinking my morning coffee and working out for as long as I want. I enjoy floating in the pool and getting outdoors as much as possible. I also love going on family trips. This year our family trip took us to Cancun, Mexico. We visited the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, swam in a cenote, played beach volleyball at the resort, and had a BLAST at a park called Xplor. The park is built around the Mayan underground river/cave system. If you ever have a chance to go, you should! This summer I also took several trips to nearby lakes (Lake Clementine, Jenkinson Lake, Folsom Lake, and of course, Lake Tahoe) to paddle board, and we spent a couple of wonderful days on Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo. Another fun thing we did was go to Nate Bergatze's comedy show. I laughed all night; he's so funny! Of course, a summer wouldn't be complete without family trips to the ballpark. How many games did the A's win? Don't ask! My final summer hoorah was a trip up to the Seattle area to spend time with my childhood best friend. We went paddle boarding on Lake Washington while the Blue Angels flew over (awesome!), went on bike rides, and did some incredible hikes up to mountain lakes. All in all, this summer was WAY too short (I'm sure you agree!), but it was pretty great.
During the school year, I obviously don't get to go on as many adventures with my family and friends, but I do try to stay active. I start each day VERY early so I can work out before school (I love lifting weights), and I enjoy taking our two dogs, Gracie and Harley, for walks in the evening. I also really want to start playing more pickleball with my hubby. Don't get me wrong, I'm not always on the move. I also know how to veg out and do nothing! When I am in the mood to relax, I'm a sucker for reality television or a good book.
Something new that I will be experiencing this year is an empty nest. In August, my twin boys, Cameron and Andrew, are heading off to start their first year of college. Andrew will study Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly SLO, and Cameron will major in Construction Management at Chico State. I am so excited for both of them, and they are both thrilled to experience college...but I am already sad that they'll be gone so soon.
Well, that's just a little bit about me. I am excited to start a new school year and to get to know YOU!
See you soon! I can't wait to meet you on August 11!
