Mrs. Henrikson's  Class

GATE Language Arts and History

Welcome to Mrs. Henrikson's class!  I look forward to meeting each of you on August 31. My hope is that this year you'll work hard, be challenged, and have a lot of fun in the process!

Hi Everyone!

I look forward to meeting each of you soon, but until then, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself.  This year will be my 26th year teaching in SCUSD and my 20th year at Sutter (now Miwok Middle School). I LOVE this school!  I used to teach 4th grade, and I certainly loved that age group, but I really love teaching 7th grade. Why? Well, mostly because 7th graders get my lame jokes 😃 but also because they're so witty, funny, energetic, and eager to learn.  My students make me laugh every single day. That's one of the reasons that I have the best job ever!

I know it's weird to imagine your teachers having personal lives, but we do!  I'm married to a pretty wacky 6th grade teacher at Phoebe Hearst--Mr. Henrikson, and we have twin boys--Cameron and Andrew. My boys are high school sophomores at Cosumnes Oaks High School. Even though you may not meet Cameron and Andrew in person this year, I'll be sure to embarrass them by telling you lots of stories about them.

Summer is easily my favorite season! I love that I get the opportunity to  spend so much time with my family and go on fun adventures. This summer was more mellow than previous summers because both of my boys had jobs, and they were obsessed with making money! Imagine that! They preferred going to work over going on trips. Crazy kids! So, while the boys stayed home and worked, my husband and I went on an amazing Caribbean cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. 😃 We had the best time! We explored underwater caves and cenotes in Cozumel, visited Mayan ruins in Costa Maya, swam with pigs in the Bahamas, and held sloths❤️ in Honduras. (See pics below!) Of course, no summer is complete without days paddle boarding at Jenkinson Lake, relaxing on the beach in Tahoe, or playing in the waves in Carlsbad (my happy place). All in all, it was a pretty good summer.

During the school year, I obviously don't get to go on as many adventures with my family, but I still seem to stay pretty busy. If I'm not teaching or grading papers, you'll probably find me lifting weights in my garage gym,  playing the piano, watching my boys run at cross country and track meets, or taking our two dogs, Gracie and Harley, for long walks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not always on the move. I also know how to veg out and do nothing! When I am in the mood to relax, I'm a sucker for reality television, and there's nothing better than having a good book to read.

I am excited to start a new school year with you! You're going to love Room 205. We have a stage! 😃

See you soon! I can't wait to meet you on August 31!
