Application Period: October 1st to November 30th
The California State University (CSU) Application is used by students to apply to any of the 23 CSU campuses. Here's an overview of the key sections and process:
1. Application Platform
Cal State Apply: The centralized application platform for all CSU campuses. Students create a single account to apply to multiple CSU schools.
2. Application Timeline
Fall Term Application Period: October 1 – November 30.
Other Terms: Specific deadlines vary by campus for Spring or Winter admissions.
3. Eligibility Requirements
A-G Coursework: Students must complete a series of college-preparatory courses known as the A-G subject requirements.
GPA Requirements:
Minimum 2.5 GPA (California residents) or 3.0 GPA (non-residents) for automatic eligibility.
Students with GPAs between 2.0-2.49 (CA residents) are evaluated using additional factors like extracurriculars and work experience.
SAT/ACT: Test scores are currently not required or considered for admissions through Fall 2024.
4. Sections of the Application
Personal Information: Basic details including contact information, citizenship, residency, and demographic information.
Academic History:
High school and college coursework.
Report all A-G coursework completed and planned.
Supporting Information: Optional sections for Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) applicants and residency status.
Program Materials: Campus-specific questions, often limited to certain programs or majors.
Academic Interests: Selection of intended majors or areas of study for each CSU campus.
5. Application Fees and Waivers
Application Fee: $70 per campus.
Fee Waivers: Available for up to 4 campuses if the student qualifies based on family income and household size.
6. Additional Considerations
Impacted Majors and Campuses: Some CSU campuses and majors are "impacted," meaning they receive more applications than they can accommodate. These programs may have stricter admissions criteria.
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP): Provides support for low-income, first-generation students. The application requires additional documents, including recommendations and an autobiographical essay.
7. After Submitting
Confirmation: Students receive an application confirmation email.
Campus Portals: Once applied, students need to create accounts on individual campus portals to track their application status.
Decisions: Admission decisions are typically released between February and April for fall admission.
