Physical Education Course Descriptions
Mission and Goals of the Physical Education Department:
At Rosemont High School our classes are structured to help students demonstrate competency in physical activity and learn the value of lifelong participation to become a well-rounded individual. We encourage students to engage in a healthy lifestyle.
Classes are driven by the three standards adopted by the State of California:
Standard 1 - Students demonstrate knowledge of and competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities. (EX. Knowledge of the importance of fitness and various rules of team sports.)
Standard 2 - Students achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies. (EX. Participation in physical activity)
Standard 3 - Students demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity. (EX. Positive social interaction and encouragement)
NOTE: Students must dress appropriately and participate daily to receive full credit. PE clothes can be purchased at the Student Store (next to the cafeteria) before the school year starts and during lunch. (shirt $10, shorts $15, sweatpants $20)
Frosh.Soph P.E. (9th/10th) -
This class offers a variety of activities focusing on aquatics (if available), dance, and individual and team activities. All students are expected to dress and participate daily. The class is designed to introduce many different activities. In each activity, fitness, fundamentals, and skill development will be emphasized.

P.E./Recreation-
Students will participate in a variety of movement activities as well as build a foundation of knowledge for life-long health. The emphasis of the class will be on personal fitness, nutrition, and wellness through aerobic, individual, dual, and strength training activities. This is a follow-up course to Freshman Core. (Satisfies the Physical Education Graduation Requirement).

Body Mechanics (Zero period only)-
A combination of Weight Training and Recreational P.E.
Yoga-
This course is designed to introduce students, safely and accessibly, to the basic postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods of yoga. Students will begin to experience the benefits of stretching, moving, and breathing freely as they relieve built-up stress, learn to relax, and ultimately get more out of day-to-day life. This course aims to promote vibrant health and tap the body’s latent energy reserves.

Net Sports -
This course is designed to allow students to learn and develop fundamental and advanced skills and strategies of various net sports, as well as fitness concepts and conditioning techniques used for achieving and maintaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive net sports activities and cardiorespiratory activities. Students will learn fundamentals and advanced techniques of various net sports, aerobic training, and overall fitness training and conditioning. The course includes both lecture and activity sessions. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in team activities, aerobic
fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime.
