GRADUATION CORD REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to purchase each cord in which they qualify.

Career and Technical Education
Students meeting the eligibility requirements for wearing the Career and Technical Education honor cord will be recognized at the Senior Awards Ceremony and may wear the Career and Technical Education cord at graduation exercises. These eligibility requirements are validated by the Alabama State Department of Education as an indication of achievement, over and above the Career and Technical Education endorsement and high school diploma requirements. To be eligible for this recognition, a student must meet the following standards.
Complete a sequence of three CTE courses in a pathway; Business, Health Science, Human Services, Engineering, or Technical Dual Enrollment
Maintain a 3.5 GPA in those CTE courses
Serve as a member of a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), which correlates to the three courses in a pathway, at least two out of the four years of high school with one of the years being senior year.
Aggie Vols, Work-based Learning, Senior Project, or Internship may count for the third course in the series if the work matches the pathway. Only one credit of each of these classes may be used to complete a series. (Multimedia or School Publications may count as two credits in the business series)

National Honor Society
All Honor Groups must be in good standing of National Honor Society
1st Honor Group – Gold Stole/Blue and Gold Tassel
4.0+ GPA
2nd Honor Group – Blue and Gold Cords/Blue and Gold Tassel
3.75 – 3.99 GPA
3rd Honor Group – Gold Cords/Blue and Gold Tassel
3.50 – 3.74 GPA

Mu Alpha Theta
(National High School Mathematics Honor Society)
Must complete Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II with at least a B average.
Beginning with Class of 2021, must complete Algebra I, Geometry, and Honors Algebra II w/trig.
Must enroll in a 4th college preparatory course such as SREB College Readiness, Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, MTH 112 Pre-Cal Algebra, or MTH 113 Pre-Cal Trig

Senior Band
Must be a full active member of the marching band and concert band
Must fulfill at least 6 semesters of band during high school
Minimal GPA of 3.5 in band class
Students must have a 2.75 GPA or higher in core classes
In “good standing” with band program
Must audition once for All-State Band
Must audition once for All-County Band
Must attend 1 honor band during high school career
Students with special circumstances will be taken at the the discretion of the director.

Senior Choir
Students must have had a minimum of 3 years of choral music
Students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher in their choral music classes
Students must have a 2.7 GPA or higher in their core classes.
Students must have tried out at least twice for Alabama All-State Choir
Students must be within “good standing” with the choral music program
Students with special circumstances will be taken at the discretion of the director.

Theatre
Students must have taken at least 3 Theatre arts courses.
Students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher in their Theatre classes.
Students must have a 2.7 GPA or higher in their core classes.
Students must have participated in at least one production.
Students must be within “good standing” with the Theatre program.
Students with special circumstances will be taken at the the discretion of the director.

Foreign Language
Maintain a B average or higher in Foreign Language I and Foreign Language II. Must be a member of Spanish Club in good standing.

Key Club (Medallion)
Maintain current paid membership in the SHS Key Club for four years of high school.
Exemplify the core values of Key Club International-leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness.

Performing and Fine Arts
Minimum of 3 years of Fine Arts courses.
Minimum 3.0 GPA in Fine Arts courses.
Students with special circumstances will be taken at the discretion of the director(s).
