Welcome to English 8!
Middle school is all about discovering who you are and finding your voice. In our class, we won't just study reading and writing. We will learn how to think critically, share big ideas, and explore new perspectives. My goal is to build a supportive space where every student sees their unique strengths, develops a growth mindset, and feels motivated to succeed.
I am a graduate of Emory & Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. Before finding my true calling in the classroom, I spent 17 years working in marketing and advertising, which included owning and operating a printing and design company. After selling my business to take a much-valued year off to spend time with my young son, Zac, I began substitute teaching at Chilhowie Middle School, and working with the students quickly redefined my career path.
I went back to school to complete additional specialized coursework at the University of Virginia's College at Wise and earned certification and licensure to teach middle school English. This year marks year number 14 here at CMS! This fall, I am starting graduate school through Radford University to earn my Master of Education degree. I love bringing my real-world media background into our lessons so you can see how reading and writing apply to life outside of school.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors, reading, and spending time with family and friends. My son, Zac, is now 21 and starting his senior year of college!
I’m so excited to get to know you and learn together. Let’s make it an awesome 8th grade year!
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime.

There is absolutely no research correlation between success and family background,
race, national origin, financial status, or IQ. There is but one correlation with success, and that is
ATTITUDE.
