Like many things at a fast-growing startup, we’re constantly improving and iterating on how we interview, so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let us know. We look forward to meeting you soon!
During your interview process, you'll be meeting team members whom your role will be working with, within your department and/or cross-functionally.
The interviews will give us a chance to ask you about your experience, interests, and thoughts about the position and Scribd. You will also have the opportunity to proactively ask about anything else that might be on your mind related to the position and Scribd.
Here's a breakdown of our typical interview timeline:
This call will be with your designated Recruiter/Sourcer.
Typically 30 minutes
Purpose of the call is for the Candidate to receive high-level information about the role and company, and for the Recruiter to assess whether or not the Candidate meets the basic requirements.
This call will be with the Hiring Manager, whom the role reports to (unless otherwise noted).
Typically 30 minutes to 1 hour
Purpose of the call is for the Hiring Manager to discuss the role and the work of the team in greater detail, and to dive deeper into the qualifications of the Candidate.
This technical screen will be conducted by a member from the team of which this role is for.
Typically 1 hour
Purpose of the call is to conduct a direct assessment of the Candidate's technical skills that are necessary to succeed in the role.
Depending on the role, the Candidate may be sent a take-home assignment to complete rather than having a call.
The interviewers for this stage consist of those you'd be working closely with including those on the same team, and from other cross-functional teams.
Depending on the role, this stage typically ranges between 1 to 6 hours
Purpose of these interviews is for the Candidate and team/internal stakeholders to get to know each other, and assess the Candidate's core competencies necessary for the role.

Take some time to think about what's important to you in a job, what kind of work environment you'd like to be in, and how you partner with colleagues and managers. Additionally, review the job description and think about how your past experience relates to the role. It would be beneficial to have some examples in mind for your interview.
Be sure to take note of any questions that you might have and ask them during your conversations
Getting a good night’s sleep is the most important thing you can do before an interview. When you’re well rested, you’re more alert and focused. Being sleep deprived can also increase feelings of stress or anxiety, neither of which is helpful!
We want you to have the opportunity to present your best self. In addition to role-specific skills, here are a few qualities for which we typically evaluate during interviews:
Communication skills (includes verbal, written, and listening)
Motivational drivers
Role fit (including both technical and soft skills)
We understand that interviewing virtually is a different experience than interviewing in person. While some candidates may prefer this format, others may have preferred in-person interviews. We appreciate your flexibility with this!
Scribd uses Google Meet for our video conferencing. If you have any technical difficulties the day of your interview, you can reach out to your Recruiting Coordinator (and cc your Recruiter) via email for assistance.
Coding
For technical screens that require coding, we use CoderPad. A CoderPad link will be included in your confirmation e-mail when you are scheduled.
If you're not familiar with CoderPad, try the demo mode to get comfortable in the environment.
Whiteboarding
If your interview includes whiteboarding, please be prepared with a pad of paper and dark-colored pen or marker. You may also use Google Meet’s whiteboarding tool, if you prefer.
Presentation
If you need to present during an interview, you can share your screen by clicking on the Present Now icon.
For our traveling candidates, once you are scheduled for your on-site interview, we will request your travel information to book your flights and hotel accommodations.
Reimbursements
Scribd will cover round-trip airfare, hotel stay, transportation and food, as needed.
View our Scribd Candidate Reimbursement Policy for more information and download the Candidate Expense Report to submit for reimbursements.
What should I wear?
The attire at Scribd is casual, and business casual (as necessary). We recommend simply wearing what you’re most accustomed to or comfortable wearing.
Will there be any breaks?
We do our best to provide a 15 minute break for every 2 hours of interviewing, and a lunch break when it makes sense. That said, we are happy to accommodate additional breaks or fewer breaks, depending on your preferences. Just let your Recruiter or Recruiting Coordinator know!
What if I need special accommodations?
If you need any accommodations to make your interview process a success, please don’t hesitate to ask your Recruiter or Recruiting Coordinator.
Still have questions? Please reach out to your Recruiter or Recruiting Coordinator.
