2008-2023: fifteen MISOs

The very first edition of MISO was held in 2008 and attracted 56 participants from 6 nations. Played out over 18 rounds, the tournament was won by local champion Theresa Brousson.

Since its maiden edition, the event has gone from strength to strength in terms of the number and diversity of its participants and the level of its organisation.

Since 2009, MISO has teamed up with John Chew as the event's technical director, and, from 2010 to 2014, with Amy Byrne as tournament director and with the European Open Scrabble Championship as a back-to-back event.

It was in 2015 that MISO took its tripartite form (Early Bird, Main Event, Late Bird) for the first time.

Unfortunately, the long annual series of MISO events was interrupted in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the event together with that of the 7th Seniors World Championship.

MISO was revived in 2021 with MISO13, then in 2022 with MISO14.
