Mokotua Scout Camp is first and foremost a Scout Camp.

Hiring the venue out is a form of fundraising for the Murihiku Zone Scouts and any profits (if any) go toward camp improvements.

We are constantly looking to do and making improvements but as we are volunteer run this can only be done with volunteer help.

Terms of Hire

1.      Bookings and Cancellations

1.1    All public bookings must be confirmed with a $100 deposit.  This deposit is refunded upon confirmation the site has been left clean and tidy.

1.2    All bookings must be paid in full no later than 7 days prior to the date of arrival.

1.3   Cancellation notice of bookings less than 7 days from date of arrival will result in full payment of the hire being invoiced to the hirer.

1.4   Mokotua Scout Camp may use a debt collection agency to recover any outstanding costs associated with this hire.


2.    Smoking, Alcohol and Recreational Drugs

2.1  Smoking, vaping and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on Mokotua Scout Camp property.  This includes the Field, Camping Grove, inside or behind any buildings. 

2.2  Alcohol is by permission only.  NO GLASS BOTTES ARE ALLOWED.  If permission is granted, this should be consumed either in the Troop Den, under the Troop Den veranda or under the Training Room veranda.  No alcohol is to be had in any of the sleeping quarters, in the Field, in the Camping Grove and/or the Campfire Circle.

2.3  Mokotua Scout Camp has ZERO TOLERANCE for Recreational drugs.  Should any evidence of recreational drug use, drug use equipment and/or drugs be found on the property during the final check by a Camp Team, Police will be notified and provided with the contact details of the Hirer.  The Hirer and anyone identified as part of the Hire Group will be banned from any future hire of Mokotua Scout Camp.


3.    Cleaning

3.1   Cleaning should be done prior to leaving Mokotua Scout Camp.

3.2  Detailed Cleaning Tasks are in the Mokotua Scout Camp folder in the Kitchen and in every room.  These tasks should be completed thoroughly prior to your departure.

3.3   Cleaning equipment is available in the Switch Room.

3.4  Should you move any furniture, i.e chairs, tables, mattresses etc, please return them to where you found them.

3.5  The Camp Team will check Mokotua Scout Camp prior to your departure or within 24 hours of your departure. 

3.6  Should any further cleaning be required an extra charge of $100 per facility will be invoiced to the Hirer. 

3.7  Should any property be damaged or missing the cost of repair or replacement will be charged and invoiced to the Hirer.  Fair wear and tear will be considered.

3.8  Mokotua Scout Camp may use a debt collection agency to recover any unpaid cleaning, repair or replacement charges. 


4.    Outdoor and/or Cook Fires

4.1  Outdoor and/or cook fires require permission from the Camp Team.  Any outdoor and/or cook fire should not be unattended until it is cold and should have a method of putting out any unplanned fire within 5 meters.

4.2  Outdoor fires may only be lit after checking Fire Permits to see if there are any restrictions in place.

4.3  The Campfire Circle is for relaxation and socialisation.  Cooking is not permitted at the Campfire Circle.

4.4 Cook fires, such as Hangi, Umu, Lovo and/or pit fires are allowed in the Field, 5 - 10 meters from the fence behind the Training Room.  Turf should be replaced properly once the fire is cold.

4.5 Braziers and/or other raised open flame fires may be used on the field, so long as the fire meets these conditions for Braziers


5. Parking

5.1   Parking of vehicles is only allowed in the Field, between the Cook’s Room and the Bus Shelter, or the grassed area outside the east boundary of Mokotua Scout Camp.  No vehicles should be on the lawn in front of the Training Room, Troop Den or Maintenance Garage.


6. Rubbish and Recycling

6.1   Hirers must bring their own rubbish bags and take all rubbish with them when they leave.

6.2  Any rubbish left behind will create an extra charge for dumping and will be in accordance with the Invercargill City Council Refuse Station costs and will be invoiced to the Hirer

6.3 Mokotua Scout Camp encourages you to recycle any goods you can.  The closest recycling station is on Clearwater Road, directly across the intersection of Gorge Road-Invercargill Highway and Mokotua Road.


7. Water Usage

7.1   Mokotua Scout Camp asks you to conserve water as the toilets and showers are on tank water and the kitchen is on bore water which can run low depending on recent rain levels.


8. General

8.1   Please leave Mokotua Scout Camp in the same or better condition than you found it.

8.2   Please inform the Camp Team if you have any issues during your hire.  They will do their best to solve the issue as fast as possible.

8.3   Please inform the Camp Team if there are any breakages and/or damage.  Any deliberate breakages/damage will be invoiced to the Hirer.

8.4   Please respect that Mokotua Scout Camp is currently undergoing changes and updates.  This may mean some of the Camp Team are on site during your Hire to complete maintenance or repairs of the property.  The Camp Team will try to stay out of your way and leave you to your Hire but may require access to areas you are using to complete their tasks.

8.5   Mokotua Scout Camp reserves the right to refuse hire to previous hirers who did not abide by the Terms of Hire, breach Covid-19 capacity limits or have outstanding fees.

Cleaning Policy

Mokotua Scout Camp expects that all hirers will adhere to the Terms of Hire of the Scout Camp.

This includes leaving Mokotua Scout Camp in the same or better condition that you found it.

Mokotua Scout Camp reserves the right to charge hirers a cleaning fee should the Scout Camp not be cleaned according to the Detailed Cleaning List.

Cleaning will be charged at $100 per facility.  For example: If the Kitchen, Rovers Retreat and Grounds are not clean this would incur a cleaning fee of $300.

Mokotua Scout Camp reserves the right to refuse hire to previous hirers who left the Scout Camp uncleaned.

Mokotua Scout Camp may use a debt collection agency to recover any unpaid cleaning costs.
