Kanwa tho Lodge #636 is Scouting the Zoo's Service Corp! For over 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich and help to extend Scouting to America's youth. During Scouting the Zoo, we have Three Harbors Arrowmen attend our event with Kanwa tho Lodge #636 (our local Lodge in our Council.) as our event Service Corp!
OA SERVICE CORP.
The Order of the Arrow is Scouting's National Honor Society. The organization is made up of Scouts and Scouters who have been nominated and elected by their units in recognition of their past and potential future service to Scouting. Members are known as "Arrowmen" and are members of a local "lodge" connected with their scouting council.
Our local lodge (Kanwa tho #636) serves as the Service Corps for Scouting the Zoo. They do everything from helping with meals to staffing different activities throughout the day. Their service earns them a special Lodge Service Patch, which can ONLY be earned if you are an Arrowman who contributes service to council events/service projects.
Information for Arrowmen:
All our Arrowmen (youth or adults) attending Scouting the Zoo should wear their sash on Saturday as they walk around and participate in activities at Scouting the Zoo! The Order of the Arrow’s Vision is to keep Scouts in Scouting. If you are an Arrowman of any lodge, wear your sash to promote Scouting’s National Honor Society!
During the day on Saturday, the Lodge will have its own display and information table. This area will serve as a promotion for the Lodge as well as a central point for Arrowmen volunteers to congregate for service projects. Leaders will assist in setting up appropriate SYT Buddy Pairs or Groups to go out and participate in ServiceCorp.
Arrowmen who plan on attending with their unit can still participate with the Service Corps; you simply have to sign up for the Service Corps using the link provided by the lodge online.
If your unit is not participating in Scouting the Zoo, you are still in luck! The Lodge will offer camping spaces to those youth and adults in need. Please indicate that on the online form provided by the lodge.
For any questions related to the Service Corps. Please reach out to Lodge.Advisor@Kanwatho.org. You can also reach out to Info@ScoutingTheZoo.org and Scouting the Zoo can attempt to answer any questions/put you in contact with the lodge.
