This week in class we....

1/8/18

Today in class you worked on Vocab #9, nonfiction article and questions, and a journal prompt. The nonfiction article and journal prompt are posted on google classroom.

1/9 and 1/10

Today in class we took notes on characterization, Steinbeck, and the Great Depression ( all are posted in the current unit material folder below). Finally we analyzed the lyrics to " Meant to Live" and "To a Mouse" to find connections to Of Mice and Men. ( A copy of both of these are in the folder as well. )

1/11 and 1/12

Today in class we had a socratic seminar. Then we took notes on some upcoming themes. Next, we read ch.1 Of Mice and Men. We passed out the study guide(also in current unit folder below) you worked on your responses in class. Finally, we had SSR.

1/16 and 1/17

Today in class we went to the library for a book talk. I stamped the assignments that were due: vocab, journal, and study guide #1. Then, we read ch. 2 and assigned the study guide due 1/18 and 1/19

1/18 and 1/19

Today in class I stamped ch.2 study guide and we reviewed responses. Then we worked in pairs to complete the 5 step analysis ( steps in For Reference folder) for the passage "Guy's like us..." ( in Current Unit Folder). Next we had 20 min of SSR with your new book. Next, I assigned the book hunt activity( instructions in the current unit folder) and you worked on gathering evidence from CH.1 and Ch.2 Finally, your homework is to complete the 5 steps analysis for "OK,someday passage".

Today in class we did some peer editing practice using the journal from Monday 1/8).Next you worked on Vocab 10 and the nonfiction article posted in googleclassroom.

1/23 an 1/24:

Today in class we stamped analysis practice for “Ok, Someday” Passage. Then you Listened to the audiobook for Ch.3 While the tape is playing you took notes on “Book Hunt” items.

-Ch.3 Study guide will be due Thursday January 25th and Friday January 26th. Students may use the remaining class time to work on the questions in class.

- Ch. 3 analysis is due January 25th and January 26th

Today in class you took a quiz on ch.1-3. Then you had time to complete SSR. Finally we listened to ch.4 and you took notes on your book hunt items simultaneously. Then you had time in class to work on your ch.4 study guide ( due 1/30 and 1/31) and your SSR question #1 due 2/5

Today in class you worked on your new nonfiction( posted on google classroom) and your vocab 11. Then you edited your ch.3 analysis and turned it in at the end of class.

Today in class I stamped your Ch.4 study guide. Then you worked in groups to create a character analysis poster and presented while your peers took notes.

2/1 and 2/2

Today the counselor gave a course presentation during the entire period. Your homework for the weekend is to complete your vocab, NF, and SSR question due Monday.

Today in class I stamped your Vocab #11. I assigned vocab #12 due next Monday 2/12. Then, we listened to chapter 5 as you filled out your book hunt simultaneously. Ch. 5 Study guide will be due 2/8 and 2/9.

2/6 and 2/7

Today in class we completed a 5 step analysis for a passage from Ch.5. Then we worked to transition your writing into a paragraph. Finally we listened to ch.6 to finish the novel. Your homework is to make sure both your paragraph and your studyguide is complete by the next class period. Remember to bring your yellow sheets for the counselors on Thurs/Fri

2/8 and 2/9

Today in class , the counselors came to finish up your course registration for next year. Then I stamped your ch.5/6 study guide, and your Ch.5 paragraph. Then you worked on your fishbowl prep sheet independently. Finally, with any remaining time you worked on organizing your OMAM unit binder with the table of contents posted in the folder below.

Today in class I stamped your vocab 12 and then we review for the OMAM unit exam. You had the remaining class time to make sure your fishbowl form was completed and your binder was organized.

2/13 and 2/14

Today in class we had a fishbowl Socratic on OMAM main ideas. Then you used this information to start drafting your essay's . You spent the rest of the class period filling in your outlines.

2/15

Today in class you took the OMAM exam. Your homework is to complete your essay outline.

2/20

Today in class you used your completed outline to type the first draft of your paper.

2/23

Today in class you handed in your notebooks that were due. We watched the film OMAM and you were able to also use this time to finish typing your essay. Your weekend homework is to study for your vocab test and finish typing you essay.

2/26

Today we took the vocab test. Then we peer edited your OMAM essays using the powerpoint on google classroom. Finally, we went to pick up our new unit book from the the library.

2/27

Today we completed a quick write and background notes on TKAM.( If you were absent today, use the powerpoint and noteguide in the TKAM folder to complete on your own). Then you worked in groups to complete theme posters. Finally your homework is to read Ch.1/2 and complete the study guide.

3/1 and 3/2

Today in class we submitted your essays. Then I stamped your studyguide for ch. 1/2 and then we took a quiz. Next, you completed a small group socratic. Then we had 20 minutes of SSR. Finally you listened to ch.3 of TKAM and filled in your studyguide. Your homework is finish ch.3/4 chapters and study guide by March 6/7

Today you worked on the next vocab assignment, nonfiction( on google classroom), ssr question, and your theme chart for TKAM. Remember that you must read ch.3/4 and complete the study guide by TUES/WED of this week.

3/8 and 3/9

Today in class we listened to CH.6 and you completed the study guide questions simultaneously. Then you worked in pairs to complete the character chart. Then you had SSR. Next you completed a group poster project- you will present these next week. Your homework is to read and answer the studyguide questions for Ch.6

Today in class I stamped vocab #13. Then you worked on vocab #14, the nonfiction posted on google classroom, and collecting quotes for your theme chart. Reminder that I will stamp your ch.5/6 study guide on Tues/Wed

3/13 and 3/14

Today in class I stamped your Ch.5/6 studyguide. Then you presented your group posters. Next we read ch.7/8 and you completed your study guide simultaneously. Then you worked individually to complete a 5 step analysis on a passage from Ch.8 of your choice- this will be your homework.

3/15

Today in class I stamped your study guide for Ch.7/8 as well as your 5 step analysis. Then we read ch.9/10. Your homework is to complete the study guide. Ch.9-10 studyguide will be due Monday.

3/19

Today in class you started to watch An American Tragedy and fill in video notes. You also picked up Vocab 15 which will be due next Monday.

3/20 and 3/21

Today in class we read Ch.11, then you took a quiz. I stamped vocab 14 and your study guide for ch. 9/10. You then had time in class to read Ch.12 and do the study guide. Your homework is to read and do the study guide for ch. 13/14. Your binders will be due 3/27 and 3/28

3/22 and 3/23

Today in class you finished the movie. Then you did a webquest on google classroom. Once finished you could work on the following:

  • SSR, TKAM study guide, Quote collection, Binder organization. Ch. 15 is due 3/27 and 3/28.

3/26

Today in class you worked on vocab 16. A new SSR Question and Nonfiction are posted on google classroom. These are all due next Monday. Remember that your binders and the Study guide up until Ch. 15 are due next Tues/Wed.

Today in class you turned in your binder. Then I stamped your homework. Finally you completed a partner read activity for Ch. 16 ( handout in folder). Your homework is complete the studyguide for Ch.16.

Today in class I stamped your Ch.16 SG. Then we read ch.17/18 and you completed your study guide simultaneously. Then you had SSR, and finally we had a small group Socratic.

Today in class I stamped your vocab 16. Then you used the rest of your time to complete a webquest writing activity posted on google classroom. This will be due in one week.

4/10 and 4/11

Today in class we had a socratic. Then I stamped your Ch.17/18 Study Guide. Next we read Ch. 19 in class and you completed your study guide simultaneously. Your homework is to read and complete the study guide for Ch. 20.

4/12 and 4/13

Today in class I stamped your study guide and you took a quiz. Then we listened to Ch. 21- you then completed a comparison activity with your group. Next we had SSR. Your homework is to complete the Ch.21 studyguide by Tues/Wed

Today in class I returned your essay grades. Then you did a sticky note activity that helped you determine what you did well and what you still need to work on. You used the rest of your time to add to your character and theme charts. Finally I gave each of you a crossword for the vocab text next Monday.

4/17 and 4/18

Today in class I stamped your Ch.21 study guide and Mad Dog assignment. Then I assigned the group poetry project and provided an example on google classroom. Your homework is to read and do the Study Guide for Ch.22-23. It is extra credit if you bring in snacks for Thurs/Fri

4/19 and 4/20

Today in class you gave your poetry presentations and took notes. Then we had a "tea party" as we listened to Ch.24 and you completed your studyguide. Then we did a partner read activity for Ch.25 and you had time to work on your studyguide. Finally we had SSR.

Today you worked on webquest part 4 and your TKAM character chart.

4/24 and 4/25

Today in class you took your vocab test. Then we had a writing workshop attending to some common trends in your previous essay. Finally you worked on your homework, to read and do the study guide for Ch.26 and Ch.27. This will be due Thurs/Fri.

4/26 and 4/27

Today in class I stamped Ch. 26-27. Then you completed an end of the novel socratic prep sheet with a station rotation activity. I then gave you some time to work on your webquest packet, studyguide and next binder packet.

4/30

Today you turned in your webquest packets. Then we played a review game for your upcoming test. Finally, for the rest of the period you worked on your vocab, studyguides, or studied for the test.

5/1 and 5/2

Today I stamped your study guide. Then we had a socratic seminar on the end of the novel. Finally I introduced the Block format for Compare & Contrast Essay .

5/3 and 5/4

Today you took your exam and then we started to watch LES MIS while you collected magnanimous quotes and deeds.

Today we continued watching the movie

Today we finished the movie and quote collection.

5/10 and 5/11

Today we reviewed your quote collection and started a prewriting activity for the essay. Then I returned all of your recently graded work and gave you time to work on vocab 18.

5/14

Today I assigned vocab 19 and we took introduction notes on Apartheid. Then we started the Power of 1 and you took notes on actions or words that were magnanimous.

5/15 and 5/16

Today we continued to watch the Power of 1

5/17 and 5/18

Today we completed watching the Power of 1. Then you completed the prewriting questions and venn diagram comparing three characters. We then went over the essay guidelines.

5/21

Today in class you completed vocab 20 and the socratic prep questions that were posted on google classroom.

5/22 and 5/23

Today in class you discussed your socratic questions in small groups. Then we had a writing workshop where you completed your outline. I also posted a model paragraph in the TKAM student folder for your reference.

5/24 and 5/25

Today in class you used your outline to type your first draft of your paper, remembering to include commentary. You submitted your progress on google classroom at the end of the period and will continue to work on it next week. You also picked up two vocab review sheets for the final

5/29 and 5/30

Today in class you finished typing and started to self-edit your paper checking for correct MLA format using the essay expectations sheet in the for reference folder below. Your essays will be due THURS/FRI in class. With any remaining time you continued studying your vocab.

5/31 and 6/1

Today in class you completed a peer edit activity and then submitted your essays via googleclassroom. Then we did a class kahoot to prepare for your final.
