Introduction to Business is designed to familiarize students with many aspects of the world of business. It will provide students with the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics which include business ownership, the business cycle, entrepreneurship, business ethics, marketing, management, finance, accounting, business law, and others. This course shows students how a changing society affects the type of decisions businesses make. The course is also designed to introduce students to many of the careers that are available in the field of business. The importance of business in our modern economy is also stressed throughout this course.

This introductory course explores the dimensions of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The tools developed in this course will help students understand how and why a new venture is launched and how to make that effort successful. The class will also provide exposure to basic entrepreneurial and business skills in a format that encourages dialog, develops critical thinking skills, and promotes self-awareness and personal development. This course explores the role of innovation in creating new or improved products, processes, or services. Students will learn about the impact of entrepreneurship on the economy and society. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically evaluate opportunities, gather resources, and understand how to manage a new venture.

What influences consumers purchases?  What strategies do companies use to market their products?  This course explores consumer behavior as well as the strategies of marketers.  Topics include consumer behavior, consumer skills, marketing strategies, the 4P's of marketing, market research and development of a marketing plan.  This course would be good to take in conjunction with Entrepreneurship and Management as well as Digital Merchandising and Design.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of accounting and generally accepted accounting principles. Students will be introduced to the basic financial statements including the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, with a focus on accounting information that is available to individuals outside an organization. The course provides an introduction to the concepts, terminology and principles of financial accounting. Students learn about accounting as an information development and communication function that supports economic decision-making. The course enables students to analyze financial statements and derive information for personal and organizational decisions from financial statements to better understand business entities.

CCHS Seniors have the opportunity to participate in a 40 hour unpaid internship in an area related to the student's interest in Business through the Career Exploration Internship Program.  This course is designed to help students understand the connection between their high school academic program and the world of work.  Topics covered in the course include resume writing, interview skills, business etiquette, responsibilities and general workplace laws and safety requirements.  Each student will be required to complete instructional assignments, maintain work journals and submit a final written report.  An evaluation of the field performance will be made by a supervising practitioner.  The course is taught in conjunction with SUNY Adirondack.  Students must provide their own transportation.  Internships must be approved by the high school internship coordinator and by SUNY Adirondack.
