Space Week in Mary I. Go Fly Your Kite workshop & Space Themed Maths Trail
We had a great day in Mary I. First we learned all about space, Apollo11 & Artemis Moon Missions for Space Week. Our class learned so much fun facts about Space and had a lot of fun. Did you know when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and after he said “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” he quickly picked up a rock to keep as a souvenir in case anything was to go wrong on their mission? The next thing we did was make our own kites with “Go Fly Your Kite” workshop. We traced coloring sheets onto our kites and then had to put the parts together in order to make a kite.
After lunch we had went on a Space themed Maths Trail around Mary I. We had to run around the college searching for clues and answer some tricky questions! When we finished, we headed to the bus and went home. When we got back to the school we tested out our kites and they were incredible. They worked perfectly as we had perfect breeze and wind to fly them. Over all we had an amazing day!

Code Week October 8th-23rd 2022
EU Code Week is a grass-roots movement that celebrates creativity, problem solving and collaboration through programming and other tech activities. The idea is to make programming more visible, to show young, adults and elderly how you bring ideas to life with code, to demystify these skills and bring motivated people together to learn.
We took part in Code Week for the first time this year. We were so excited to be starting our coding journey this year it was the perfect opportunity to learn new skills.
We used Beebots, Microbits, Scratch, completed Hour of Code activties such as Dance Party, took part in Code Week's escape Room challenge and completed some unplugged coding activities such as pixel art.
We absolutely loved getting the opportunites to try out new coding projects and explore the variur free reources and websotes on offer. We invested in a lot of new technology this year and were delighted to be able to learn to use them ourselves and then teach the younger classes how to use the equipment.
We got certificates for completing Hour of Code and were delighted to receive our first ever certificate for Coding. It was truly motivational and inspired some of us to keep on coding at home! We added our activities to Code Week EU's map which gave us another boost of confidence to see how much we were contributing to Ireland's stats.

The Amazing Acrobatic Clown
The aim of our project was to show the children an example of centre of gravity.
Our materials were paper clown template, colours, scissors and paper clips.
The method was to cut out the clown out from the template and colour in. We tried to balance the clown on our fingers…..we couldn't!
Then we got some paper clips and tried attaching them to the clowns arms. We had to try this a few times experimenting with where to place the paper clips and how many to attach. Most of us found that by attaching 4 paper clips ( 2 to each arm) we could then balance the clowns on our fingers.
The result was when you lower the centre of gravity by attaching paper clips to the clown, you could balance the clown .The conclusion was that it was a successful experiment and we loved it!
We used various amounts of paperclips to act as weights. We also found that we had to have equal amount of clips on opposite sides to ensure the even distribution of weight.
