Every student is required to have a backup plan.
We are a public school, just like the ones in your community. If your student doesn't show up to the school building they are marked absent even if they have a good reason.
For example, you are having transportation issues. Yes, it's a legitimate reason why you couldn't make it to school, but your student will still be marked as absent. It is the student's and the guardian's responsibility to find a way for the student to get to school.
It works the same way in a virtual school setting. If you can't use your laptop or the Wi-Fi is down (your transportation), it is your responsibility to find a way to log in and attend school.
Students who miss school days for this reason will be marked absent.
Some things to consider are:
Where will you work if your normal internet service goes down? Some families have a device with a hotspot, or they go to their local library or coffee shop with free wi-fi.
If you have a K12 loaner computer, and it breaks or gets a virus, call K12 Tech Support at 866-512-2273 immediately and then notify your Advisor.
Whose or what computer can you borrow while you wait for K12 to fix it or send you a replacement?
If you do not have a K12 computer, where will you get your computer fixed if something happens to it? What will you use until your computer is fixed?
Use the hotspot on your phone
Go to your local library
Go to any restaurant/coffee house or place of business to log on to the Wi-Fi, with parents/learning coach permission. You may sit in your car outside the establishment to do so, or go inside.
Use another device you may have in your home
See if there is one you can borrow until the issue is fixed
Go to your local library. Find your local library here.
