CASC Counseling - Dual Enrollment

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment allows students to take college level courses while also attending high school, earning both high school and college credits at the same time. Students will stay enrolled with CASC while also enroll with a local technical college that is approved through your School Counselor. Dual Enrollment students will earn credits that count towards college and high school graduation requirements.

Dual Enrollment Requirements:

Be in 11th or 12th grade
Have a 3.5 or above GPA
Have taken English 1 & 2 with a minimum final grade of A-B
Have taken Algebra 1 & 2 and Geometry with a minimum final grade of A-B

Many colleges have offered free tuition to students who qualify and typically, students need to take at least 6 credit hours per semester.

*Tuition and fees are always at the discretion of the college.

How Does Enrollment Impact Your GPA?

Dual Enrollment courses receive the highest weighting on the SC Uniform Grading Scale.

1/2 point higher than Honors courses
1 point higher than CP courses

Example 1:

Grade of 85 in a CP Course=3.5 GPA

Grade of 85 in a Dual Enrollment=4.5 GPA

Example 2:

Grade of 95 in CP Course= 4.5 GPA

Grade of 85 in Dual Enrollment= 4.5 GPA

Important Grading Policies:

Dual Enrollment grades appear on both high school and college transcripts.
A grade of C or higher is typically required to receive a college credt.
Dropping a class after the 5th day results in a WF (Withdraw Failing) on the high school transcript.
