The Scituate Music Department is thrilled to announce that 4th grade Band lessons start the week of September 29th! This is a great opportunity for your child to learn how to play a band instrument -- a long-standing tradition in the Scituate Public Schools! Registration closes Thursday, September 18th!
Students will view demonstrations by Scituate High School musicians during school. Students in our elementary band program have also made videos of themselves demonstrating the instruments that your child can choose. They do a great job of showing your child the basics of the instrument and what their experience has been in their first year of study.
Deadline to sign-up is 9/18/25!
After viewing the demonstration videos, decide on your top 2 instrument choices. While most students will receive their first choice, we may need to assign students their second choice. We make every effort to accommodate students' first choices, however other factors are also considered when finalizing all students' instrument assignments. You will receive a notification about which instrument has been assigned on or before 9/22/25.
We encourage renting-to-own. You can review rental information here. If considering purchasing instead, please review the material on this page -- your potential purchase must be approved by a music teacher prior to purchasing. Please reach out to Mr. Loretz if you require financial assistance obtaining an instrument.
New Band members and a parent/caregiver should plan to attend a meeting on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30pm at Scituate High School in the Center for Performing Arts to learn about our Band program, expectations for participating in the program, getting to know their music teachers, and renting an instrument. Attendance of at least one caregiver and the new Band member is required, even if your family is not renting an instrument through Goulet & Co. Reach out to Mr. Loretz if unable to attend. Families renting through Goulet & Co. will pick up their instrument after the informational presentation.
