Normal School Schedule:
“Bzz bzz.” It’s my phone alarm going off. I heard it laying next to me but I stubbornly ignored it pressing the snooze button. I try to wake up at 6:30 with an alarm I have set on my phone. Rolling over in my bed I try to ignore my thoughts of getting up and ready for school. Hugging the comforter just a little bit longer, I decided to lift my legs out of bed by 7 o’clock. The sounds of the city are trying their best to keep me awake. It is in fact really easy to procrastinate getting up from bed. By 7 o’clock I managed to get myself out of bed and start to pick out my clothes. I stumble to my dresser just a few inches from my bed. One drawer t-shirt, second drawer pants, and the closet for shoes and socks. Next, I glance at my phone tapping the screen to see what time it is. It’s now 7:29, I need to get going! Rides to school (bus or car) either one contains some sort of music or sounds.
Free periods/lunch
Although eating lunch and laughing out loud with friends is fun, we still have to maintain a good schoolwork schedule. If I'm not in a classroom with friends I’m in my own little spot listening to my music and reflecting about the day. Dedicating the right amount of time to homework is a really important skill to learn. During my long but also short lunch periods I often hang out with my friends in Mr. Enzweiler's room on the 5th floor. This room has become a meeting spot for the Y band. As juniors, we are quite busy with college prep and hard classes. So many constant assignments are popping up on Canvas. essays, math sheets, and in-class research. But occasionally when I don’t have an X band class I use that time to check off those boxes for each individual assignment. Sometimes every day or so I use one of my lunches to recharge. I plug in my headphones place one in each ear and start my music.
Dismissal/After school
Airpods and Headsets are ways of taking time to be in your own world. The control over what we want technology to do is endless. We can ask it to turn on, to be loud, and to be quiet. Once it connects to your imagination the possibilities are endless. Some people rely on podcasts, news, videos, and music. Easily connected media that anyone who owns a car, phone, laptop, record player, or radio can listen to. These tiny little waves of sounds hit your ears and spark interest in your brain.
The Real Thoughts of Reflection
For me music is my safe place, I am someone who lives and breathes music. I always have my phone nearby. Headphones, speakers, or just playing audio from the phone are always with me. On this note, I would like to share my experience of a normal school day. To show you how important headphones are to people who might need a break from reality.
