Why Chromebooks?

What are Chromebooks?

Chromebooks are devices that solely access the internet. There is no software installed and therefore no updates required. Chromebooks run on the Google Chrome web browser which updates automatically and regularly when using the web. Since there is no software, the devices have nothing to load. The result is that the Chromebook can power up in seconds. This makes these devices perfect for everyday classroom use.

Why did we choose Chromebooks?

Chromebooks are a great tool for our students. They are completely web-based which allows them to start up in seconds. All files will be stored in the Google Cloud which allows students to access information and materials from anywhere they have an internet connection. They can even work without a network connection! Teachers have tools at their fingertips to create lessons, assignments, and allow students to be fully engaged.

Here are some more reasons we chose Chromebooks:

  • Schuylkill Valley School District uses Google Apps for Education. We are also a Google Reference School. This allowed the transition to be easy for our students and teachers.
  • Each Chromebook can be managed by the district and have restrictions where necessary.
  • Because they boot and reboot in seconds little instruction time is lost.
  • Long battery life (8-9 hours) which allows our students to be mobile throughout the day.
  • It is completely web-based so little training is needed for our students.
  • Students have access to the Google Apps for Education plus a plethora of apps and extensions in the Chrome Web Store
  • Low cost, fits with the district's financial plans and needs

Our Chromebook

Schuylkill Valley School District uses a variety of methods to select a Chromebook that best suits our educational purposes. We strive to find one that has the proper durability, performance, and price that will last students for at least four years.

Our current models are the HP Chromebook Education Edition G4 and G6 that students will receive.
