Schuylkill Valley Elementary

1:1 - Chromebooks

Schuylkill Valley Elementary School has begun a one-to-one technology initiative that put Chromebooks in the hands of every student in grades 2-4 which started in the 2018-2019 school year. As a school, we began preparing for this new initiative in the 2017-2018 school year. Starting this year, students have have had access to more Chromebooks in their classroom as we added a second cart to each grade level. Students have been using these devices with their classroom teacher to enhance their learning and the curriculum. The teachers have been participating in professional development training throughout the year and have been spending our In-Service time creating and learning grade-level appropriate materials. Teachers are feeling comfortable with this change and in turn the students are excited to incorporate more technology into their learning.

For the 2019-2020 school year, students will each be assigned one Chromebook. In our elementary school, the Chromebooks will solely be used in the classroom and will not be taken home.

What is a 1:1 Initiative? Who is participating?

A 1:1 Initiative is when each student receives their own device. Students in grades 2,3, and 4 will each be receiving their own Chromebook for in-school use only.

Why a 1:1 Initiative?

At Schuylkill Valley we are hoping to provide students with the following by giving them each access to their own device:

-Access to high-quality digital resources

-Encouraging students to be more organized and meet their learning goals

-Apply technology skills that will prepare students to be effective communicators and collaborators
