Seventh Grade

Learning Support Curriculum

Language Arts

Although we are a learning support classroom our curriculum is very much aligned with the seventh-grade regular education curriculum. My goal is to tailor our curriculum standards to students individual ELA needs.

To address students’ decoding, fluency, and comprehension needs, I utilize a direct systematic multisensory approach to language arts. I also have woven repeated practice throughout the ELA LS curriculum. This allows students to draw on the skills they have learned and apply their knowledge to different aspects of reading.

Daily reading is a big part of our classroom instruction. This year we will read several novels and short stories that will allow students to connect with and explore different genres and elements of literature. Some of the novels we will read this year are "I am Malala", "Chasing Lincoln's Killer", and "Hatchet".

All students are also encouraged to participateis in the 25 Book Challenge. You can find additional information on the program in the linktree above. Students can use their required 2 Accelerated Reading books per quarter to help work towards this goal.

Math

In our Math curriculum, we explore math topics that allows students to bring math concepts to mastery. We will incorporate all different types of math instructional styles. Math class will be run using small group and whole group instruction depending on the students’ areas of need. Daily math fact fluency practice will be utilized to help students develop automaticity. All concepts will be revisited using a daily spiral math review. This will allow students to continuously practice previously learned skills. This also aids in retention of skills, which will allow students to move forward into Pre-Algebra concepts.
