Seek help as soon as possible by contacting a mental health professional or by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK if you or someone you know exhibits any of the following signs:

Ask your child if he is depressed or thinking about suicide. Rather than putting dangerous thoughts into their head, asking shows him that you care and that he is not alone. 

Don't leave them alone. If you think your child has a mental illness or a substance abuse problem, get them the help that he needs even if he resists. Most importantly, take seriously any suicide attempt.
