Students must complete a full year of either HPE, Healthy Lifestyle Choices or Sports Academy (Entry only gained through acceptance to the Sports Academy Program). In the second semester they can elect to come out of either HPE or Sports Academy and into Volleyball Academy.
This is a compulsory course that is designed to enthuse students with a joy for movement and enhance the development of lifelong physical activity habits. It will provide the opportunity to develop gross and fine motor skills through the performance of a variety of physical activities. Students also study a range of age-appropriate health issues such as values, puberty, relationships, decision making and STIs within the SHINE program.

SHINE: relationships and sexual health (30%).
The course is aimed at students who are highly motivated and have a genuine interest in improving their own and others' sporting performance. Students are introduced to the future specialist areas of basketball, football, netball, touch, soccer, volleyball and fitness as well as other complementary sports. The course incorporates a theoretical understanding of the various components of fitness and their potential impact on performance as well as the SHINE program, which deals with age-appropriate health topics such as values, puberty, relationships, decision making and STIs.

For Sports Academy students, participation in multiple sports at a high level is ideal. There are prerequisites that must be completed to enter this course:
a letter of application from current HPE teacher
a practical skills test.

This course is co-designed with students and offers flexible practical activities and assessments that differ from the HPE course. It encompasses both practical and theoretical aspects. The practical element has a greater emphasis on increasing participation and re-engaging students with the benefits of lifelong physical activity and the theoretical element focus being around 'why we eat what we eat'. The course also incorporates the SHINE program where students study a range of health topics such as self-esteem, relationships, diversity, gender and sexual health.

This will be a mixed gender class were the practical focus is on re-engagement, participation and inclusivity in a less competitive learning environment.
