NYC Tenant Support Unit
The New York City Tenant Support Unit was created in 2015 to provide assistance to New Yorkers who may be experiencing landlord harassment, are at risk of displacement, or need to make home-related repairs. Tenant Support specialists conduct proactive outreach in select neighborhoods to assist tenants with accessing important City resources, such as free legal assistance.

NYC Housing Development and Preservation (HPD)
To resolve any housing quality or safety issue, always contact your property owner or landlord first. If your landlord is unresponsive, it is your right to file a complaint by calling 311.
HPD will attempt to contact your building's managing agent to advise them that a complaint has been filed and that a violation may be issued if the condition is not corrected immediately. HPD will also attempt to call you back to see if the condition was corrected. If you indicate that the condition was corrected, HPD will close the complaint.
