Inducted Member Expectations
Once you are accepted and inducted by the faculty council, your membership remains until you graduate from PS/MS 219. In high school, you will need to re-apply to be a member of the National Honor Society (typically 11-12th grade but varies depending on the high school).
Academics
Members are expected to maintain a GPA of 85 or above in all core subjects (Math, Social Studies, ELA, and Science. Members also need to maintain a 3 or 4 in clusters (Art, Computer Science, Health, Mandarin, Music, Physical Education).
Individual Service
Service is defined as follows; A member’s time that is freely given by the NJHS® member.
Members are expected to perform at least 20 hours of service per year. The 10 hours must be performed prior to the end of each checkpoint (dates determined by the faculty council).
Members are expected to be responsible for their own hours and notate them on a service hours log.
There may be some opportunities in school to volunteer during recess time and can be completed outside of school.
Chapter Service Projects
As a chapter, we organize collections for various causes. For example, the food drive, toy drive, and clothing drive. We create the flyers and spread the word to our school community.
Positive Role Models
Citizenship is evidenced by school administration, faculty, and observance of behavior in and out of class, of each member.
List of behavior requirements and consequences:
No more than 10 unexcused absences or lateness from school (Results in probation from NJHS for 2 months)
No repeated discipline issues of a level 1-2 with the school dean, up to two times each (Results in probation from NJHS for 2 months)
No level 3, 4 or 5 substantiated infractions (Results in removal from NJHS)
Chapter Meetings
We met 1-2 times a month to discuss chapter events for our school and services projects. We also review skills you will need that you will need as you get older. For example, positive role models, email etiquette, time management.
