Our Math Story: Standards-Aligned Instruction & Teacher GrowthΒ

At PS/IS 30, our math curriculum is designed to develop deep conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and mathematical fluency. Grounded in the Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS), our instruction emphasizes critical thinking, real-world applications, and collaborative learning. We integrate the 8 Effective Math Teaching Practices and the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practices to ensure that our teaching is rigorous, engaging, and aligned with best practices. These practices focus on fostering a mathematical community, encouraging problem-solving and reasoning, and supporting perseverance in learning, while the standards guide students in connecting mathematical concepts, communicating their ideas, and applying math in real-world contexts.Β

Our approach to instruction is data-driven, with ongoing assessments and feedback used to inform teaching decisions and tailor lessons to meet the needs of every student. By analyzing student data, we are able to adjust instruction, provide targeted support, and track progress, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed. To support our commitment to high-quality instruction, we prioritize ongoing professional development for our teachers. This ensures they are equipped with the latest pedagogical strategies, resources, and tools to provide the best possible learning experiences for our students.
