Our Process of Learning

In HMH Into Reading Module 4, students will listen to, read, and engage with a variety of texts focused on community, relationships, and people who make a difference in the world around us. Through high-interest stories and informational texts, students will explore how individuals show courage, kindness, and determination to create meaningful change. As they navigate these texts, students will deepen their understanding of character traits, author’s purpose, and central message while expanding their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

As students analyze how characters support one another and solve problems within their communities, they will begin to recognize the importance of bravery, cooperation, and leadership in real life. During the writing component, students will select a person who has made a positive difference by using courage to solve a problem. With support and guidance, they will describe who the person is, explain the problem this individual faced, and share how their courageous actions helped others in the community.

Students will move through the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising, and publishing—to produce a meaningful piece that celebrates a courageous community hero. Ultimately, students will create a digital presentation using the Book Creator app to showcase their writing and honor the people who help make their community stronger.
