Professional Development Series 2026-2027
Professional Development Series 2026-2027
The citywide series of Moving Image Blueprint professional learning is open to moving image, general education, special education and other arts teachers. Each professional learning program will highlight a different cultural destination and feature a unique media arts experiential learning component, offering skills and resources for teachers to bring back into their classrooms.
Blueprint: Moving Image Professional Development workshops offers CTLE credit and will take place on the following Citywide Professional Learning days:
Session 1: Wednesday September 9, 2026
Virtual, 9:00a - 11:00a
Session 2: Monday February 1, 2027

Session 3: Thursday June 10, 2027

All sessions will address and align with the NYC DOE Blueprint: Moving Image, NYS Media Standards and Citywide Instructional Priorities.

A Conversation with Selwyn Hinds
SELWYN SEYFU HINDS is a prolific, award-winning creator and storyteller of all kinds—author, editor, music scribe, comics creator, producer, and screenwriter, to name a few. Selwyn is the creator of Hulu’s Washington Black, an adaptation of Esi Edugyan’s esteemed novel, starring Sterling K Brown and Tom Ellis, among others. Washington Black made its debut to widespread critical acclaim in summer 2025. The New York Times proclaimed it a “defiantly joyful fable.” The San Francisco Chronicle called it, “one of the most ambitious and affecting limited series of the year,” and The Gate deemed the show “compelling and layered…operating on a level of craft that will leave viewers in awe.” Washington Black has been nominated for a slew of honors, including an NAACP Image Award, GLAAD Media Award, NAMIC Vision, the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and the ASCP Composers Choice Awards. Selwyn’s current TV projects include two shows at Netflix. He’s co-writing a drama inspired by music superstar Usher’s seminal album, Confessions; and producing, with Sterling K Brown, an adaptation of the Percival Everett novel The Trees, starring Brown and Da’Vine Randolph. In addition to his own shows, Selwyn’s also writing on season 2 of the upcoming drama series Lanterns, on HBO Max. Selwyn’s past TV work includes his time on Jordan Peele’s reboot of The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access, penning the police brutality episode “Replay,” starring Sanaa Lathan, which made Selwyn a finalist in the Drama Teleplay category for the 2020 Humanitas Prize. Selwyn’s also served as a Consulting Producer on HBO Max’s DCU anthology Strange Adventures and developed at HBO with George R.R. Martin.
