I have used the REMIND App as a means of communication with my parents for the last 4 years and have found it be an extremely effective platform. The REMIND app allows me to message families as a group or individually. I am able to send photos as well as any upcoming reminders or important information. I have found this app allows families of all languages to communicate with ease. Families are very engaged and have shown such positive feedback with the use of the REMIND app.
Having families feel as if they are part of our classroom is very important to me. I believe that scholars learn best if we all work as one team! Over the years and throughout the pandemic, I have always strived to find ways to actively involve all families in and out of the classroom! Weekly newsletters, mystery readers and in class visits are just a few examples of how parents and families are encouraged to become part of the classroom environment!
Below you will find some examples of how I continue to make parent/family engagement a top priority each day!
Weekly Classroom Newsletters are sent out every Monday to keep families updated on classroom activities and upcoming events!
My classroom doors are always open for families to join us in any celebration!
Family members are encouraged to come be Mystery Readers!
Parents are encouraged to join us on community walks and class field trips!
Over the past four years, I have had strong collaboration and engagement within the school community as well. Being a team player and being able to collaborate and work with many different people within my building has allowed me to learn and grow so much as an educator. When I started teaching at PS 45 in 2018, I wanted to quickly become part of the school and collaborate with my colleagues and administration. I have had the pleasure of becoming part of many teams and committees within my school including SEL, Instructional Leadership Team, SLT and becoming a mentor for my colleagues.
Below please find the committees and teams I have a pleasure to be part of at PS 45 Q!
This year, five members of our school are part of the SEL comity. The SEL team focuses on our scholars social and emotional strengths and need for instruction. We look at school wide data together to think of our next plan.of action. We focus on grades individually as well as our school as a whole.
From 2019-present, I have had the honor of being part of my schools Instructional Leadership Team. As a team, we meet twice a week to look at curriculum data school wide. Together, we are able to collaborate and put forth new ideas to integrate inside the classrooms.
We are currently taking a closer look at our EL curriculum and how we can further help all scholars with their writing skills.
During the 2019-2020 school year, I was assigned to mentor two 3K teachers. Throughout the year, we met multiple times a week where we would discuss and took a closer look at the instruction inside their classrooms as first year teachers. I would help them implement the curriculum and together we would create interactive lesson plans.
This year, our Administration has started implementing grade level meetings once a week. Once a week, members of a specific grade team meets with administration to discuss specific grade glows and grows. This may include looking at data, lesson plans and brainstorming new ideas to help student growth.
I am currently the grade team leader for 3K. I have been asked to facilitate and guide teachers during their admin preps each week. During this time, we look at what is currently happening inside their classrooms, looking at professional development opportunities as well as some areas we think need some improvement. At the end of every meeting, I type up our discussion and agenda along with our goals for the following week!
I currently continue earning CTLE credits through many different professional development courses.
My most recent Professional Development was centered around i-ready and how to help my scholars utilize i-ready inside and outside the classroom.
I am also beginning to earn my 30+ credits and will be looking into different course to continue my education.
Even though I have spent my teaching career in Early Childhood (B-2), I have earned three NYS teaching licenses.
Currently I hold my professional license in Early Childhood (B-2) and Childhood Education (1-6)
I also hold a dual initial certification in Special Education (B-6). I am working on a course, in order to gain my professional license.
