Sir William Gerald Golding CBE FRSL was a British novelist, playwright, and poet. Best known for his debut novel Lord of the Flies, Golding published another 12 volumes of fiction in his lifetime, including: Rites of Passage and The Scorpion God. William Golding was a Royal Navy officer during WWII, and his experiences witnessing the capacity for human cruelty inspired Lord of the Flies. Think about how those experiences may shape the conflict in a story.
