Class specialties are vocational subjects that are assigned to classes so that students can engage in work-based learning. The purpose of class specialties are:

• To foster essential skills that further student self-independence

• To promote workplace readiness

• To teach “transitional skills” that make connections to post-secondary life and work life 

• To help students apply their learning to real life by teaching functional academics

• To promote student communication and engagement 

• To encourage students to advocate for their wants, needs, and interests

• To teach responsibility & accountability.
