* January 2021 *
When we launched the 2020-2021 school year in August, our staff developed a building-wide set of behavior expectations for all in the High School community. Our Eagles CARE expectations were an instrumental component in ensuring everyone knew, understood, and followed a uniform collection of procedures, providing routine to our day, and a predictability of what we need to keep our school community safe.
As we begin the first day of in-person learning of the Second Semester tomorrow (January 26th), our Eagles CARE expectations have evolved to represent the needs of our new learning environment. While students and staff are still expected to exhibit COMPASSION, AWARENESS, ROUTINE, and ENGAGEMENT, we have made a few adjustments to Eagles CARE. Teacher-Leaders on our Eagles CARE School Leadership Team reflected meaningfully with their colleagues, solicited input from our students, and led in updating our expectations to meet the new demands of students returning to four days a week of in-person learning. While face covering remains the accessory of 2021, some of the major adjustments are summarized below.
Students will receive printed schedules for their Second Semester classes. Schedules have been printed and have been placed inside of each student’s locker upon their entry to school tomorrow. Students may also see their most up to date schedule by looking at StudentVue on Synergy. If any adjustments need to be made, students will need to schedule an appointment with Mr. Ledlow in the Guidance Department.
We are excited to welcome our student body back to campus tomorrow. As you review our Eagles CARE expectations, do not hesitate to reach out and ask any questions. Otherwise, we look forward to launching the in-person portion of our new semester in the morning.
ENTERING THE BUILDING
With an increased amount of students entering the building at the beginning of the day, students will need to enter different doors by grade level:
Seniors/Juniors: Main Entrance
Sophomores/Freshmen: Entrance by Construction Site (doors leading to Mr. Branch’s and the Robotics Room)
Bus Riders: Enter from Bus Loop
Students will receive temperature checks when they enter their First Hour classroom, following putting their things in their locker.
Students will only be permitted to enter the building at 7:40 A.M.
HALLWAY
We will continue with our staggered dismissal from classes. However, for the new semester, we will dismiss by grade level with each grade level having a three minute passing time. We will follow the follow order:
Seniors/Juniors
Sophomores
Freshmen
Students are expected to keep moving during transition and avoid congregating in the hallway and common areas between classes.
Backpacks should remain in lockers.
CAFETERIA
Beginning Second Semester, we will have three lunch periods, allowing us to adhere to six feet of social distance between students while they are unmasked and eating.
Students will need to select a table to report to for the duration of the semester. On day one, students will need to fill out a seating roster for the table and be expected to be at the same table for all of their lunch periods; the seating roster will help us in the event of needing to contact trace.
CLASSROOM
We will continue with students sanitizing their seats and work spaces prior to leaving the class for the day.
Dear MHSAA Community,
Governor Whitmer and MDHHS announced that Winter contact sports – including MHSAA activities in girls and boys basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling – must remain non-contact through Feb. 21. The previous emergency order was set to expire at the end of January and would’ve allowed those sports to begin contact activities Feb. 1.
“We found out about this decision at 9:30 a.m. like everyone else, and we will address it as quickly as possible after taking the weekend to collect more information,” Uyl said. “We did not anticipate this delay in winter contact practices and competition, and today’s announcement has created many new questions.
“Obviously, this is disappointing to thousands of athletes who have been training with their teams over the last week and watching teams in other states around Michigan play for the last two months.”
Thank you.
