If COVID-19 has taught me anything, it is that we have a great team at SHS. No part of our personal lives remain untouched by the pandemic. Likewise, our work as educators for the Schoolcraft Community has undergone just as many adjustments - oftentimes not by our own timeline. But, our staff at SHS have responded to these changes, adjusted how we do what we do, and have learned new skills. You have inevitably seen or heard these new skills through your child’s Chromebook as our teaching and support staff have become fixtures in your home with our different virtual learning models. In spite of all of these changes, our staff have, and will continue, to keep your child(ren) at the center of our efforts.
While we all want to be back in-person, we also understand that in addition to learning a few new ways to engage our kids virtually, we all have a part in limiting the spread of this virus. We want to thank you for remaining supportive of our staff and appreciate the consideration of keeping us informed when or if your child becomes ill. Our decisions now impact the timeline of when we can all return to in-person learning and move closer to a pre-pandemic school environment.
It seems COVID-19 updates hit our phones more frequently than text messages from our friends and family, we understand that some communication can get lost in the shuffle. Following Governor Whitmer’s press conference on Monday announcing the extension of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Epidemic Order, the confirmation of SHS continuing in our virtual learning mode was contained in the weekly SCS COVID update. However, if you prefer seeing only the SHS-specific information, you may review this by clicking here.
To be at our best and to make informed decisions for your child(ren), we need your feedback. Do not hesitate to contact your child(ren)’s teachers if you have questions, connect with our Main Office, or email or phone call me directly. A team of teachers and parents are a part of a committee to inform a proposal for our learning model for the beginning of our second semester (January 25, 2021). If you would like to join the conversation and the planning, please reach out to me and we can discuss next steps.
We hope this newsletter model helps consolidate the deluge of information coming your way. The publication of this is emblematic of how great our team is as our Front Office crew has been compiling the information below, learning a few new Google skills, and will continue to collect information for monthly updates.
Thank you for your endurance as we adjust to a temporary “normal”. Our team is here for you and for your family.
Dear MHSAA Community,
Today’s announcement from Governor Whitmer and MDHHS has extended the “pause” on high school in-person instruction and high school and middle school sports through Dec. 20.
The MHSAA had provided a detailed plan to both Governor Whitmer and MDHHS that would have completed fall tournaments with no spectators as safely as possible during the month of December along with allowing winter sport practices to resume. While we are disappointed in today’s announcement, we will continue to look forward as we remain committed to play three sports seasons to their conclusion. The MHSAA Representative Council will meet on Wednesday of this week to chart out another plan for finishing Fall and restarting Winter.
Updated information will reach you again following Wednesday’s Representative Council meeting.
Thank you.

Media Center Messages
As the KVCC semester is winding down, remember to return the books you borrowed from the media center. If you had to purchase your own books, fill out the reimbursement form, attach your receipt, and bring them along with the textbooks to the library. If you rented a book, be sure to return the book to the place of rental. You may still get reimbursed for rentals as long as you have the receipt. Please be sure to put your name on a sticky note on the books so I can credit the correct person. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Wright at 269.488.7327 or wrightt@schoolcraftcs.org.
Clubs & Organizations
Common Bond, Schoolcraft Schools’ X’Treme Friendship Club, is an extracurricular club at SHS that provides events for students of all abilities. Through supervised activities, students are provided opportunities to increase relationships with peers, gain a better understanding and tolerance of others’ differences, and form friendships. The high school Common Bond enjoyed some fun outdoor events this fall! Even though Covid put a pause to our annual X-Treme Kickoff Party for 6-12th graders, high school students enjoyed some outdoor Tailgating fun as well as a Halloween Party in the gym! The X-Treme Kickoff Party will be moved to the end of the year (fingers crossed) and renamed, The X-Treme Kick Covid to the Curb Party! The Bond’s winter activities will also be moved to the spring. Students can stay tuned for some upcoming virtual events. Follow the Common Bond Facebook and Instagram pages where you’ll find event information, see pictures from our events, find inspiring quotes, and check ins on our Bonders...If you have any questions, please contact Amy Green in the high school, greena@schoolcraftcs.org or 488.7350. # Reach out # Reach in # Bond Strong

Schoolcraft Community Schools has a tradition of supporting families in our schools around the holiday season.
This year, to keep everyone safe and still provide that much-needed support, an Amazon Wish List has been created of the gifts that these students and families are in need of. Staff and community members alike can shop safely from this link and support a number of students and families in the process. Should you want to participate in these gift-giving efforts this year, open the attached link. All of the items will ship directly to school for your convenience and safety.
This is certainly a unique time, but the caring spirit of Schoolcraft remains the same and for that, we thank you!
Happy Holidays from Schoolcraft Community Schools!
