Curriculum

STC will be implementing a new curriculum, HMH Into Reading for English Language Arts this school year. 

Please check back for updated information regarding this new curriculum. 

In 5th grade the Honors Math program begins at STC. Students must meet high standards to be eligible for the program. 

Honors 5th Math will be taught by Mrs. Imms - eimms@school.stteresacalcutta.com 

5th Grade Math will be taught by Miss Basiura - kbasiura@school.stteresacalcutta.com

5th Grade Math - Homework/Testing

Homework will be given daily to help reinforce the skills of the lesson for the day. 

IXL - Students will be required to complete a designated amount of time on IXL on their grade level for the week. 

Tests will be given at the end of every chapter in addition to quizzes throughout the chapter. 

All tests will be announced, posted under homework, and written in student homework planners.  

In 5th grade, students will learn about geography, human-environment interaction, economics, and the development of the western hemisphere amongst other topics.

Assessment - 

Students will be assessed after each unit, whether it is a formal test or project. 

Students will be given map quizzes later on in the year when we begin learning about the continents. 

Homework is given at the discretion of the teacher. 

Students will also complete a large group project during our economics unit based on the show "Shark Tank".

In 5th grade, students will learn about the structure and properties of matter, matter and energy in organisms, space systems, Earth's systems amongst other topics. 

5th grade Science is taught by Ms. Cotter - lcotter@school.stteresacalcutta.com 

In 5th grade, students will get a deeper review of the Sacraments, devotion to Mary, liturgical year, prayer, and social justice topics. 

Assessment - 

Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.
