Self Portrait
Beginning with a slab of clay, build a likeness of yourself. You may work from a photograph or a mirror. This project may also include a homemade underglaze transfer or a lithographic transfer.
Frame your face
Once the portrait is complete, build a frame to display your work.
Nerikomi
This is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that involves layering, stacking, and manipulating colored clay to create intricate patterns and designs within the body of the ceramic piece. We will continue our practice of Nerikomi by learning one more design method.
Underglaze Transfers
Using newsprint and underglaze, make your own transfer designs to decorate your objects.
Set of plates with underglaze design
Build a set of plates to include your own underglaze transfers. A set typically includes four, but this number may be altered to best suit your living situation. ***Plates and other functional objects may be good to display / sell at the art show.
Musical Rattle
Build a solid object that sings when it's shaken.
Broken Vessel
Build a functional object and make it look broken.
Tag the School
Being mindful of your creative working space, design and build a piece that can be assimilated into any room in the building (hallways and bathrooms are excluded). This piece should be deliberate and add a pop of beauty to the space where it is installed.
