Welcome To Kindergarten

A Virtual Journey

Principal's Message

Hello,

Welcome to Kindergarten at Hyde Park P.S. What an exciting time for families! Kindergarten is an opportunity for your child’s curiosity to spark, for a love of learning to develop and for new friendships to bloom. Our school is a wonderful, caring community of “Seekers” who seek to be kind in all that we do.

In September, we look forward to welcoming you in person (hopefully) and introducing you to our team of dedicated educators. Each Kindie Team consists of a teacher, a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE), a Special Education Resource teacher (SERT), Educational Assistants (EA’s) who support all classrooms in the school and two administrators (a Principal and a Vice-Principal). We would like to thank the Kindie teams for their work in preparing this virtual “Welcome to Kindergarten” resource for you in the hopes that some of your questions will be answered and you will be better prepared to support your child as they begin their school journey.

Here are a few key pieces of information we would like to share:

  • Hyde Park is predominantly a walking school so please walk or ride your bike to and from school as often as possible.

  • Setting a good precedent for attendance begins in Kindergarten. Strive to have your child at school on time every day.

  • Promoting a positive mindset starts at home. Encourage your child to learn from mistakes, take risks and build their self-esteem through promoting independence and developing skill-sets.

  • Communication is key. Reach out to your child’s teachers when you have questions and work together to support your child’s learning.

  • Cherish this special time with your child - it really does go by too fast!

Have a wonderful Summer! Hope to see you in September!

Mrs. Whitley and Ms. Butler

Why is Attendance So Important?

Setting good attendance patterns from an early age, through primary school, will help your child later on in their life.

Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. It's difficult for the teacher and the student to build their skills and progress if they are frequently absent.

Primary education is important, in fact it is essential!
