Kindergarten students are dropped off at the South side of the school in the Kindergarten yard.
Yard supervision begins at 8:55am, so please do not leave your child before then.
If you see children and a teacher in the yard before 8:55am, they are from the before and after school daycare program.
Say goodbye to your child at the gate, help them open the gate to get into the yard, and then close the gate behind them.
If your child is having difficulty saying goodbye we find it is best to give a hug, positive/encouraging words and then pass him/her along to the kindergarten team. If you linger in sight, your child will likely remain upset until you've left.
Rest assured that if your child is upset when you drop him/her off, that within 5-10 minutes your child will likely be calmed down. Try not to worry - we will be in touch if there is a problem.
If you arrive late and your child's educators are no longer in the kindergarten yard, please go to the front doors to get buzzed into the main office. Please note that the office is extra busy right now, so please be patient after you ring the bell as it may take a few moments for someone to be free to answer.
Dismissal time is a very busy time of day. Our main priority at this time is making sure all the students get sent home safely.
We try to begin dismissing kindergarten students at 3:20pm. The rest of the school dismisses at the bell at 3:30pm.
Students will come out of their classroom and stand in their class's designated dismissal zone. We dismiss students one at a time as they see their parent/caregiver. They MUST check in with us before they leave. They are not to run out without saying goodbye. Sometimes at the beginning of the school your your child may try to do this because they are SO excited to see you! If your child does this before they learn the routine, please send them back so we can reinforce the proper routine. This is for everyone's safety and we appreciate your support.
If you have important information to pass along, or want to chat about something, we'd ask that you either email, call, schedule an appointment, or wait until all the children are dismissed so we can give you our full attention. We aren't trying to be rude - just trying to keep track of everyone getting home safely.
Thanks for your understanding on this!
If you arrive late and your child's educators are no longer in the kindergarten yard, please go to the main office to pick up your child.
Our school parking lot tends to be a very busy place at drop off and dismissal times. We strongly encourage you to walk to and from school to pick up your child.
Alternatively, please consider parking on a side street and walking in from there. There is also a small parking lot located on Proclamation Dr. by the tennis courts/basketball court where you can park and walk down the pathway to the school.
If you are coming into the school lot, only the lower city lot is available for parking. The school parking lot is for staff only.
In recent years, we added the kiss and ride option. You will drive around in the line to the kindergarten main gate and we will release your child as we are notified you are coming. We encourage you to have a sign on the dashboard your car with your child's name and teacher's name on it to help speed up the process. You may get out of your car if your child needs help getting into their car seat. Please note, if you want to walk your child to or from the gate, you'll need to park your car in the public parking lot and walk.
Please do not park along sidewalks around the school, as this is the fire route or part of the Kiss & Ride. Besides making it more congested and unsafe for our students and families, the Barrie By-Law enforcement does visit us, and will ticket.
On rainy days, please allow extra time for yourself as things will be extra busy.
Please note: While we love dogs, pets are not permitted on school property.
This gate is located on the South side and is the main entrance to the kindergarten yard.
We use this gate to go out to the big yard sometimes.
