The grade 9 and 10 math courses at Bear Creek are taught using a spiraled approach. Spiraling involves uncovering multiple expectations that are often covered in separate units together into like groups called "cycles." Within these cycles, expectations are covered through various group projects, activities and good problems designed to allow curriculum expectations to be revisited multiple times throughout the semester. This allows for multiple opportunities for students to be successful and demonstrate an understanding of the course content.
Benefits
The math classrooms at Bear Creek are setup as "vertical classrooms" where students complete problems in groups at the whiteboards.
Students are welcome to attend the math help room, which offers math help from teachers every lunch from Monday - Thursday from 11:15 - 11:45 in Room 240.
