Instrumental, Vocal and Theory Individual Lessons at St Clement Danes
We offer individual lessons during the school day in the following disciplines: Piano, Singing, all the String, Brass and Woodwind instruments, Guitar (Classical, Acoustic and Electric), Drums, Percussion and Theory. Lessons are delivered by our team of experienced peripatetic teachers, with each student receiving thirty half hour sessions across the academic year.
Students in Years 7 to 9 receive lessons during school hours on a rotating timetable to minimise disruption to their academic studies. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 are scheduled during free time, non-GCSE subjects (such as Personal Development), or, if necessary, during academic lessons. Sixth Form students (Years 12 and 13) attend lessons during their free periods.
Fees are set annually by the school. Currently, the cost is £300 per term for ten 30-minute lessons. Please note that lessons will only be provided once payment is received, in accordance with the stated terms and conditions. Specialist staff are employed specifically to teach these lessons, therefore payment must be received in advance to cover this valuable teaching cost.
Please be aware that once you have applied and agreed to the terms and conditions, your commitment constitutes a binding contract. If you wish to discontinue lessons, five lessons’ written notice from a parent or guardian is required. The notice fee remains payable even if lessons are not attended.
Students will be entered for the appropriate ABRSM, Trinity or RockSchool grade at the teacher’s discretion. Examination fees apply and assessments are held twice a year at school.
There are lots of opportunities for players of all standards to join in the school’s many and varied musical activities, whether they take lessons in or out of school. These include First and Second Orchestra, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Brass Group, Choirs and a school production. Weekly rehearsals take place during break times, lunchtimes and after school. Concerts and other musical performances take place each term. All instrumentalists of a suitable standard are expected to join in at least one group activity, as this is a valuable learning experience for the student.
