Student Eligibility

18 years of age by December 2025
Enrolled in a Sarnia-Lambton secondary school
Diagnosed with an intellectual disability or other disability
Must be planning to work a part-time or full-time job in the community at a competitive rate
Has (some) independent living skills
Is willing to participate in transit training
Takes direction from supervisors and is able to change behavior as needed
Has a supportive home team

Application Process

Information Session - In person information Session for Potential Candidates and Caregivers. DATE and TIME to be announced.

Fill Out Application

Interviews and Skills Assessment Day (mandatory) date and time to be announced.

Interviews and skills assessment sessions with the Project SEARCH team will take place at YMCA Jerry McCaw Family Centre, Sarnia. Activities will assess specific skills to determine the students’ suitability for the program.

Meet the Interns

Alexys

My name is Alexys and I am currently working in the Child and Youth Department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: reading books to children and playing games with them. After Project SEARCH, my goal is to find part-time employment.

Eric

My name is Erik and I am currently working in the Membership Services department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: greeting members and sweeping the floors. After Project SEARCH, my goal is to find part-time employment as a cook.

Clarissa

My name is Clarissa. I am currently an intern in the Health and Wellness department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: servicing the treadmills and helping set up for fitness classes like aquafit. After I complete Project SEARCH, I hope to find part-time employment.

Emylia

My name is Emylia and I am currently an intern in the Food Services department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: delivering snacks and lunch to the classrooms and preparing food for snacks and lunches. After Project SEARCH, I hope to find part-time employment as a fire investigator.

Nick

My name is Nick. I am currently an intern in the facilities and maintenance department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: laundry and vacuuming. After I complete Project SEARCH, I hope to find part-time employment as a barber.

Jack

My name is Jack and I am currently working as an intern in facilities and maintenance department. Tasks I enjoy in this department include: cleaning lockers and dry-mopping the bathrooms. After Project SEARCH, my goal is to find full time employment during the day.
