Big Ideas: Understanding the experiences of and challenges facing people in the past helps put our experiences and challenges into context. Different groups responded in different ways to the shift in power in Canada from France to Britain. The significance of historical events is determined partly by their short and long term impact.

We are learning about the experiences and challenges people in the past faced so that our experiences and challenges are put into context.
We are learning about the shift in power in Canada from France to Britain so that we can understand the different responses and perspectives from those affected.

Big Ideas: Not all Canadians enjoyed the same rights and privileges in the new nation. People in Canada had different reactions to creation and expansion of the country. This was an era of major political change which affected various groups in Canada in different ways.

We are learning about the different rights and privileges that Canadians had in the new nation so that we understand that not everyone enjoyed the same ones.
We are learning about the different reactions Canadians had to the expansion and creation of Canada so that we understand how our Country came to be.
We are exploring the political change of Canada at the time of Confederation so that we understand how this affected various groups in Canada in different ways.
Big Ideas: Throughout Canadian history, people have struggled to meet challenges and to improve their lives. The first half of the 19th century was a time of major conflict and change in Canada. Social and political conflicts and changes in the first half of the 19th century have had a lasting impact on Canada.
Learning Goals:
We are exploring various challenges people have met during major periods of conflict and change so that we understand the lasting impact these conflicts can have.
Big Ideas: The struggles of individuals and groups in Canada at this time lay the groundwork for some of the rights we have today. During this period, a surge in immigration from new countries increased the diversity of Canadian society. Social changes that occurred at this time have had a lasting impact on Canada.
Learning Goals:
We are learning about certain struggles Canadians faced during the early 1900’s so that we understand how those struggles laid the groundwork for many of the rights we have today.;
