School counselors provide short-term counseling to students on a variety of topics including friendship, conflict resolution, anxiety, managing emotions, coping skills, transitions, etc. We utilize a variety of techniques, including solution-focused brief counseling and cognitive-behavioral strategies to address barriers to healthy and adaptive living. Sessions are brief in nature and are not considered therapy. If a student's needs require support beyond school counseling services, we can provide you with a referral for community resources. Students may make a self-referral to see their school counselor. A parent or teacher may also refer a student for school counseling services.
In the circumstance where our solution-focused services do not meet the needs of a child, we will work closely with families to discuss outside resources. Typically, this would include a referral for clinical mental health counseling. We work closely with a variety of therapists in the area, all specializing in different needs related to mental health. In the case where we think your child could use a mental health therapist, we will be open, honest, and supportive in this journey toward help.

School counselors provide small group counseling to focus on topics such as friendship skills, grief, anxiety, self-control, and managing emotions (ZONES of Regulation). Small groups include 4-6 members and groups meet weekly over a 6-8 week period. We try to run as many small groups as possible throughout the school year, so we appreciate your patience when setting up groups :).
