Did you know that the South Central Calhoun FFA is actually a merger of 4 originally chartered FFA Chapters?
The Eagle FFA Chapter at Lake City was chartered in 1939 and re-chartered in 1946 after WWII.
The Lohrville FFA Chapter was chartered in 1940.
The Rockwell City FFA Chapter was chartered in 1937 and re-chartered in 1946 after WWII.
The Lytton FFA Chapter was chartered in 1934.
In 1993 the Eagle FFA and the Lohrville FFA combined to become the Southern Cal FFA Chapter when the schools merged.
In 1987 was the combination of the Rockwell City FFA and the Lytton FFA to create the Rockwell City-Lytton FFA Chapter before the schools consolidated in 1993.
Finally when the Southern Cal CSD and Rockwell City-Lytton CSD began whole grade sharing as South Central Calhoun in 2011, the South Central Calhoun FFA was born.
The support group for SCC FFA, the Chapter Farm and Fruit Association otherwise known as the Farm and Fruit Board, is a group made up of community members and FFA members. This group owns the 70 acre FFA Test Plot near Lanesboro and advises the members in making all the decisions related to it. Our student members of the board for 2023-2024 are Senior Representative Samantha Potts, Junior Representative Aydan Parker, and Sophomore Representative Katie Burley. The profits made from the farm are donated back to the chapter each year to use for scholarships and convention fees.
SCC FFA has always been involved in the community. We do several projects each year to give back. One way we do this is during our Harvest Meals in the fall where we feed local farmers. The meal is planned by the Human Resources committee, packaged by students in the agriculture classes, and delivered to the 7 local coops.
The SCC FFA has many traditions, but rewarding members for their hard work is one of the most important. At our Parent/Member Banquet each year we give out several scholarships and awards to members for their contributions to the chapter. Some of these awards include Star Greenhand, Sophomore, and Junior awards, Special Senior Awards, Perfect Attendance Awards, Senior Scholastic Awards, and the DeKalb Agriculture Leadership Award.
We also have a great meal and a speaker at our banquet as well. This past year our speaker was National Autioneering Champion Will Epperly.
