SCC FFA Members participate in a variety of activities at the Sub-District, District, State and National levels each year. Members are encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of opportunities the FFA provides them as members.
Iowa State Fair
Iowa State Fair
SCC FFA members are always involved in the Iowa State Fair. Some things they have done in the past include showing livestock, working as an FFA Usher, competing in photography, horticulture, and floriculture competitions, and much more!
LDEs
LDEs
Leadership Development Events, otherwise known as LDEs, are FFA's speaking competitions. SCC FFA competes in LDEs at the Subdisctrict, District and State level including Creed Speaking, Conduct of Meetings, Job Interview, and more!
Manson Trapshoot
Manson Trapshoot
SCC FFA always has several members who travel to Manson in the fall to compete in their FFA Trapshoot against other members from across the NW District. This year we had 3 SCC FFA members attend.
CDEs
CDEs
SCC FFA Members compete in several Career Development Events or CDEs each year. These are our hands on FFA competitions including Soils Judging, Livestock Judging, Ag Mechanics, Farm Business Managment, Team Ag Sales, Agronomy, Poultry Judging and more at this Subdistrict, District and State Levels.
NW Greenhand Fire Up
NW Greenhand Fire Up
First year FFA members attend the Greenhand Fire Up camp from SCC each year. This year we had 31 members attend. They learn about opportunities in the FFA and how they can get involved in their local chapter.
National FFA Convention
Seven South Central Calhoun FFA Members traveled to Indianapolis last October to attend the National FFA Convention. Representing SCC were freshman Deagan Dusenberry; juniors Tristin Gorden, Lillie Spencer, Landon Thompson, Owen Sharn and Brycen Williams; and senior Jace Pedersen.
Highlights of the trip included watching SCC graduate Ashley Schleisman receive her American FFA Degree. Members also explored the National FFA Expo, attended general sessions including the national officer selection, and showed their support for the Iowa national officer candidate.
While in Indianapolis, the group took part in several educational and sightseeing experiences, including an ocean tour at the Indianapolis Zoo, a visit to the NCAA Hall of Fame, and a tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Legislative Symposium
Legislative Symposium
SCC FFA members attend Legislative Symposium, or FFA Day at the Capitol, each year. This year we had 5 Junior and Senior members attend. They get to hear from the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of Agriculture, and other influential people in agriculture in our state. They also get to speak with our representatives for our area about Agriculture Education and FFA.
IAT Conferences
IAT Conferences
Each year Iowa FFA hosts FFA members on two Saturdays, one in November and one in December, for the IAT Leadership Conferences in Ankeny at FFA Heaadquarters. This year we had two FFA members attend the Ignite conference for 7th-9th grade members, and three members attend the Amplify conference for 10th and 11th graders. They learned about FFA opportunities, how to be a good leader, how to work with others, and what to do to get more involved in their local chapter.
Iowa FFA Degree
SCC FFA has multiple members that apply for and obtain their Iowa Degree each year. This is the highest degree the state association can give to its members and members meet a variety of qualifications to earn it. Some of these include earning or productively investing $1,500 or working an equivalent amount of unpaid hours through their SAE project, completing 25 hours of community service, completing a 6 minute agricultural speech and more.
State FFA Convention
SCC FFA Members attend the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference in Ames during April each year. Members attend this convention and go on industry tours, see the expo, watch competitions, watch the sessions including speakers, attend workshops, see FFA members get their Iowa Degrees and meet other FFA Members from around the state. SCC FFA members also are delegates, Courtesy Corps workers, and compete in competitions like Poultry Judging and Greenhand Quiz available at the state level.

Each year SCC FFA competes in several LDE competitions at the Subdistrict level including Conduct of Meetings, Creed Speaking, Job Interview and more.
District Convention
District Convention
FFA members who advance from Subdistricts compete at the District level. There is also more competitions that our members do including Farm Business Management Test, Ag Mechanics, Chapter Website and more!
NW District COLT
NW District COLT
Each year the SCC FFA Officers attend the NW District COLT training. They learn about their officer positions, how to be an effective leader, and get to meet other FFA officers from across the district.
