Week 3

CHAPTERS 11-15

July 1

DISCUSSION QUESTION

Because so many have special plans for the 4th of July, we will keep it to just one discussion question this week.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES

Activity #1

Get up close and personal with hamsters! Visit Petco and make observations about the hamsters you see. Create a chart on which your family records both what you notice, as well as what you wonder. If unable to visit Petco, watch this short video of a family observing hamsters at their local pet store.

Activity #2

In chapter 14 Humphrey places thoughtful stickers inside the notebooks of Brad and Gail, in the hopes of boosting their spirits. Try doing the same thing with a family member, neighbor, or friend. Leave a kind note where you know they will see it (on top of a pillow before bed, inside a purse, on the kitchen counter to be seen in the morning, etc.).

Activity #3

Also in chapter 14 the cabin members begin making plans for skits to be performed at the Comedy Club night. Instead of performing a skit, try playing a game of charades. Let nature be your inspiration! Create cards with the names of some of the animals mentioned in the story: snakes, frogs, birds, mice, etc.
