Summer Reading Opportunities

In addition to this book club, there are many other opportunities this summer that can help to keep your kiddos reading! We know that by reading 4-5 books this summer, students can prevent summer learning loss. Be sure to check out the fun listed below.

SCASD Summer Learning Letter

Visit this letter from the SCASD Curriculum Office, which shares additional information about opportunities for reading and math at home over the summer.

Schlow's Summer Reading Program

This year's theme: A Universe of Stories. This program is open to the whole family, not just school-aged children. With special events and fun prizes, it is something that many families across State College enjoy participating in each year. See the link for additional details, including a calendar of summer events.

Summer Library at Ferguson Township and Gray's Woods Elementary Schools

Due to the construction, Summer Library will not take place at Lemont or Houserville this year. However, two other SCASD elementary schools will be hosting Summer Library, and we are all invited to join in the fun! With cute crafts and special read-alouds, there is always so much to look forward to at our SCASD Summer Library sessions. See the link for dates and times.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Journal

This is a simple way to earn a free book. Bright green copies of this document are being sent home with all students. Students entering grades 1-6 simply need to read eight books and record their progress then return the sheet to Barnes and Noble (during the month of August) to select a free book.

Additional Humphrey Titles

Be sure to check out other Humphrey titles! Many of these are available at Schlow Library, as well as Ferguson Township and Gray's Woods Elementary Schools, which have summer hours.

Visit this link to see more Humphrey titles. The first titles listed are best for grades 3-5, while the second titles listed are best for grades K-2.

A big thank you goes out to Girl Scout Troop 40427, Dr. Dishong, and the Spring Creek Elementary PTO. Their contributions made this special initiative possible!
