I feel having acne is the worse for a tween or teenager so I turned that into art. The art I made represents how it can be hard for someone to show up and be her true self if there is an inner voice constantly saying "you can't do this" or "you are too small." So I made half of her heads covered with a paperbag because this way she can hide from others-she is afraid to show up. THen, the other half is open, and showing her the way she is because she is brave. Showing this way to others believing that she belongs into a family, into a group of friends, into a community and into the world.

I grew up beside the Hudson River. I can see the River from almost every room in my house. It is the first thing I see when I get up in the morning and the last thing before I go to sleep at night. I see it every morning waiting for the school bus. I don't always wake up in time to see the sun rise, but when I do, it's amazing.
Seeing the River, especially after I have been away, makes me feel like I belong. It makes me feel like I am home. In this painting, I tried to capture the colors of a sunrise and also the colors when the season is changing from summer to fall.

When I was born, I had a dog named Zoey. She was very kind and wouldn't bite. When she passed away last year, it was the worst. This year, I got a new puppy named Cypher. I love taking him to dog parks to watch him play. I also love to snuggle with him at the end of the day when he is exhausted. Cypher is always happy to see me when I get back from school. This is why dogs make me feel I belong.
