Emergency Binder is in the top left desk drawer
Seating charts are in white binder in brown cubby next to SmartBoard but students should know their spots.
Students should not touch any instruments in the room unless it is indicated in the sub plans.
Emergency "everything has gone wrong and I don't know what to do:" Google Chrome Music Lab or Incredibox.com and let kids play around as a class. Please only do this as a last resort!
Reilly - 8:45-9:25
Marceau - 11:00-11:40
Bernarducci - 2:15-2:55
Students sit in a circle
While singing, they pass the blue/purple pumpkin around to the beat.
Once they get out they can sit on the small carpet and when enough students make a second circle they can play for fun or watch the original circle.
**Need at least 15 minutes to do this activity.
Students can collect the following materials to use manipulatives to compose their own halloween stories.
They should practice saying the pictures & rhythms by themself and then share with a neighbor. You can have volunteers share their stories with the class and the class can sing the "Halloween is scary, halloween is neat, play the spooky rhythm on the creepy crawly beat" in between volunteers.
Materials:
2nd or 3rd Grade Rhythm Bag - *located on brown cubicle & labeled
Halloween erasers bag - *located on brown cubicle & labeled. ***PLEASE MAKE SURE STUDENTS PUT ALL OF THE SAME ERASERS BACK IN THEIR BAG
"Placemat" to organize station (located under gray cubicle)
Heart/Beat Paper - located in red drawer of rainbow tower next to gray cubicle.
**STUDENTS ARE FAMILIAR WITH THIS ACTIVITY. They should be able to self manage so long as you facilitate them getting organized and pausing every few minutes to share out via turns or with a neighbor.
They should clean up the same way they collected.
Students STAND in a circle
Any student who breaks the rules is out. Non-negotiable (aide or sub makes this call, NOT the students)
Rules:
Students must pass to the beat. They cannot hold on to a broom longer or shorter than the beat on purpose.
Students who get "out" fly around the circle holding the broomstick. NO RUNNING
All other students must stay standing inside the carpet so they don't accidentally trip someone
Don't forget: the last verse (4 broomsticks) lasts a bit longer!
They can use colorful boomwhackers as "broomsticks" (in orange buckets by first entry door)
Play as many rounds as you have time for!
DelMonaco - 10:15-10:55
Watch this old Disney classic of skeletons dancing. Notice how there are no words, only music, to tell the story.
How can this influence your Halloween Scripts?
Take 3-5 minutes in your halloween story groups to think about how instruments can enhance your story.
Practice: you MAY use instruments but need to decide as a class, which ones are best. You are NOT picking random instruments because they're fun to play. You MUST pick ones that make sense. You can only use instruments from our "instrument bank" in the bins, which includes chimes, triangles, ocean drums, and gongs. You canNOT use: ukuleles, big drums, xylophones.
NEED AT LEAST 12 MINUTES FOR THIS ACTIVITY. If you don't have that time left, watch the video below and practice reading through the script again.

Have the class practice the chant
Students can take turns coming up to be the beat conductor line by line and then for the whole chant.
Video Above has someone singing for you but the book is on the bookcase and you can show it while the students watch.
Students know how to sing and play this on their own!
Sitting in their spots, the students can turn into a pumpkin by leaning foward. On "THAT" of "Just like that" they pop up and show a jack-0-lantern face.
Remind students that jack-o-lanterns don't make noise
They can volunteer to have a new type of face each time (e.g. happy, spooky, sad)
Remind them that since I am not there, they need to help sing to keep the game going.
Read another halloween story from the bookshelf or have them play the jack-o-lantern song game! They would need to sing for you:
Pumpkin, pumpkin, round & fat,
turn into a jack-o-lantern just like that!
