Jeannie Crowley, Director of Technology and Innovation, Eric Rauschenbach, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, and Lauren Pomerantz, High School Social Worker, shared about the impact of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) on students. This "lunch and learn" webinar was open to all members of the community and covered the following topics: recent trends in NCII (including deepfakes and sextortion), AI and NCII, changes in federal and state laws, District protocols for response, and how the school and families can partner to support students impacted by NCII.
Kristen Carroll, Quaker Ridge Technology Teacher, and Kate Byrnes, Quaker Ridge Librarian, shared their experiences in integrating media literacy and digital wellness lessons into the library and technology programs while providing valuable tools and strategies for teaching these important skills at home. Technology is a permanent fixture, and participants will share strategies for how to interact with technology responsibly and preparing our children for the future. This is part one of our Family Forum series focusing on Media Literacy Competencies.
Chris Casal, Technology Teacher at Heathcote School, and William Yang, District Coordinator of Digital Learning and Literacy, along with fellow parents in the community shared how to help children develop better self-regulation, set effective boundaries, and create a family plan that works for everyone. Participants discovered ways to promote healthy device use, including setting realistic expectations including an introduction to thinkiing about Generative AI which will be featured in future family forum sessions.
Families came together to watch a viewing of the film, Screenagers. Screenagers is an award-winning documentary that dives into the challenges families face in this digital age. Through poignant and unexpectedly humorous stories, paired with surprising insights from leading experts, Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age reveals how screens are shaping kids’ development. The screening was followed by a discussion with the panel consisting of Dr. Eliot Cohen (Head of School Psychologists at Scarsdale Public Schools), Max and Maria, (Scarsdale High School Students), Jeannie Crowley (Director of Technology and Innovation), and William Yang (District Coordinator of Digital Learning and Literacy).

A panel hosted by the PTC, including Chris Moleski, Scarsdale detective, Laura Forbes, Bureau Chief & internet safety coordinator with the Westchester DA office, and Liza Fahey, Scarsdale Youth Outreach, led a discussion to help parents better understand how online sexual offenses, including sexual extortion, harassment, and forgery, can impact students in our immediate community. Parents are left with knowledge about issues that currently exist in our children’s digital world and how to better navigate parenting in these complicated times.
