Ms. Iorio, Learning Specialist at Greenacres School, led an informative session focused on tips, strategies, and dispositions for developing executive functioning skills at home. The session also featured a discussion led by Elise Koski, an elementary special educator, and Michael Hirsh, a middle school special educator, addressing questions parents had about transitioning to middle school and the developmental aspects of executive functioning as children grow older.
How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) changing education? Stephen Mounkhall and Meredith Dutra (co-facilitators of the SHS AI Inquiry Group) facilitated a dynamic session on Generative AI (GenAI) and how SHS is responding to this new technology. Parents learned from student voices, our teaching values, and shared thoughts in an open family discussion.

Our Phone Smart panel moderated by SHS English teacher, Jennifer Rosenzweig, and Superintendent Drew Patrick. The panel will also include teachers, who will share reflections on the impact of smartphones on learning.
Parents had the chance to speak with other parents on issues related to phone use and social media, including contemplating how Scarsdale might approach the proposed “bell-to-bell device ban in schools” being discussed by Governor Hochul.

During the session, they provided parents with practical strategies for device time at home. From setting realistic expectations to using built-in tools, parents will learn ways to promote healthy device use that they can plan with their children.
