Not all technology tools in education are created equally. Using a model like SAMR can help you reimagine why you are using something in your classroom and its purpose. Notice many of these tools can follow in all of these areas. As you become more comfortable, you can expand your use of the specific tool and give more ownership to the student.
Once you start thinking of tools in the Modification or Redefinition areas you are transforming what your students are doing with technology. You can use this as a springboard for a new type of assessment.
Remember when using technology for assessments, you are still assessing the content, not the technology itself. If the technology is not used correctly you won't be able to see the content clearing and would not be assessed. The best way to assess these types of activities is a rubric. I will give examples.
