Weather plays an important role in our daily lives. It influences what we wear, what we do, and even provides an easy way to start a conversation with someone new.
We will begin our study of weather during the first week of school and continue exploring it throughout the year. This unit will weave into our school day in small, meaningful ways, connect with other units of study, and draw inspiration from the fascinating events happening right outside our classroom window.
Our investigation will center on daily observations of local weather as well as temperatures around the world. By tracking and recording these temperatures each day, we will build a set of data that can be used all year long for creating tables, graphing information in four different ways, and analyzing patterns.
This weather study will grow from both our own careful observations and the research of scientists who have studied weather patterns before us. Along the way, we will also develop key vocabulary. These terms will help us ask questions, describe our findings, and explain our developing scientific understanding with clarity and confidence.
